Very true Hosta. I think the sad part is the amount of waste in the NHS - and lots of other Government organisations. The amount of wasted pills and medicines prescribed every year comes to a ridiculous amount of money. If only people would use some common sense before requesting repeats etc...
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
It's a bit of a monster to manage to say the least. One of our GP's is very fond of showing a picture of a worst case scenario and making you think you're lucky.
Lesley that is awful about the wait for a scan for mum Before our hospital got it's own scanner and we had to use another hospital we didn't have such a wait.
We have good GP's but due to financial incentives regarding things like steroids you have to be firm and persist to find out if you really would benefit and reduce odds for serious ailments if you did or did not take them.
OH and I visited two Care Homes today (prospecting on Mum's behalf) - and one of them looks a real possibility. It felt right the moment we walked through the door. Lovely caring staff, homely feel, no nasty smells - and a really pretty garden, totally safe, accessible to the residents whenever they want. When Mum has recovered from her infection they will come and assess her, to make sure they can cope with her particular needs. Fingers crossed!
Re waste in the NHS: I returned some unopened packets of pills recently prescribed, because I found they didn't agree with me, and was surprised to find they had to be thrown away...
But fundamentally, the NHS is great, and should be defended at all costs. The Tories keep nibbling away at the edges, and trying to sneak in privatisation by the back door.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Liri that is good news I don't know if you made an appointment to visit the home If so pop back again without an appointment I suggest Monday mornings or Friday afternoons PM me if you want an explanation.
Liri, hope all works out well for a lovely home for your mum.
My mum was in a lovely home (after a not so lovely one) I was very lucky, she well looked after but I still visited her on different days of the week and different times of the day, for more reasons than one. Best wishes Liri xx

I have to say, maybe GPs ought to use prescriptions as the last resort, not the first.
I have a wonderful GP, one of the best I've ever had and she's not one to say " here, take these" unless absolutely vital.
I've been very lucky with doctors too Hosta, although I rarely have to visit one.
It's a great big can of worms, and no simple solution, that whole NHS debate...

indeed so and everyone has their own suggestion about which other budgets to raid to pay for it.

Ok, thanks for that explanation Jo. I guess that's fair enough... I just hate throwing anything away.
