Jo, I've been keeping a look in re your heater/workman situation. I can relate and sympathise greatly! We spent our first 7 years in our last property with no heating and gaps under the windows! We lived in one room in the winter with calor gas heater! Hope they pull their fingers out soon and hook you up with something suitable! I'm sure your cats will be thinking the same!
