That's me back. What a lovely day it is, sun is shining Had a little trip round poundworld and found myself purchasing 2 bare root plants, a 'yellow fragrant climbing rose', and a hypericum, and a box of fish blood and bone and a box of bonemeal! I thought the plants, or rather sticks, were worth the pound. If they don't grow I've not lost much
Happy birthday Art sorry I missed a shout out earlier
Have spent the day helping son and his OH (expecting a baby!) clean up their new house after the builders and electricians. Was filthy! then took us out to a restaurant for a late lunch. My hands are aching now with all the washing and wiping.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Fairygirl can you give our bathroom a wave with your wand please? The builder's going to come some time this year to regrout and redecorate, until then it looks a bit sorry for itself even when we give it a good going over
Panda, that lot sounds a bargain
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Verdiun you are kind I've given them a pull and they are tightly in there. Don't know their name but they are what I call pom pom primulas, growing a long stalk and round lilac flowers, name please ??
Fairy, will keep my fingers crossed, wish I had a wand.
Panda, we all love a bargain, hope you enjoyed this morning.
Lizzie feet up and a wine have been earned.
Right just popped back to tell you a little story, been preparing evening meal, including Savoy cabbage & it reminded me of donkey's years ago, when Dad grew all our veg. My little sister wanted to know why we always had to have boy cabbages and not any girl ones.
Fidget, have been out to check what type of hellebore the purple one is . . . and I hate to say it, but I think my keeping of the label was a bit pointless as all it can tell me is that it is a hellebore orientalis Not much use I'm afraid. I didn't have much gardening knowledge when I started so wasn't aware that it would be pretty useless for identification purposes
KEF - you've got Primula denticulata (drumstick primulas) - I've got a few but the VWs got at them before I used the nematodes - hopefully they'll recover a bit this year.
If anyone's keen on primulas, the woodlands and watergardens at Fairhaven, absolutely crammed with naturalised Candelabra Primulas are worthy of a day out - they do a guided tour this year it's on 25th May, but of course the gardens are open every day http://www.fairhavengarden.co.uk/events_2014.html - right in the middle of the Norfolk Broads
Afternoon all..... Had a great day weeding and borrowed lo toy rake and raked all the leaves off the beds it's amazing what's coming up ATM...... Although my alliums are a bit short in numbers this year!!!!! I'm more and more worried I have killed my peony but cutting it back far to soon But I'm trying to stay optimistic that the only reason the one on the other side is coming up is because it's on full sun whereas the other one I want to grow is in the north bed...... I bought a load of native primroses last year and they are just popping up ...... Smoked cod and parsley sauce for tea so better go.......
Fairhaven looks really lovely, Dove. Don't know when we'll be in Norfolk again. OH had a lovely friend who lived in Norfolk, Charles Boldero, but he's died so we won't be visiting any more. He wrote books on country walks.

I love the candelabra primulas. I grow them in the boggy area around the pond and they self seed nicely. They come in shades of purple yellow and reddy pink, all with yellow eyes, producing a very vibrant picture.
Nice quote from Christopher Lloyd I read earlier: when asked what was the best time to prune a particular shrug, he replied, "when you have a pair of seccateurs in your hand , and are in the mood"
Feeling rather sore after my efforts today so a pain killer and a little lie down for me.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
