Back from our trip away. Took the caravan to Yorkshire and stayed about 3 miles outside York. Nice to be able to Park & Ride and actually enjoy the festive events whilst watching everyone else running around trying to be somewhere else half an hour ago
We drove over to Keswick for a day to pick up some items from Honister slate mine. There were areas in and around which had clearly suffered severe flood damage and some sad skips full of furniture etc - but it was absolutely amazing how normally the town seemed to be functioning. Most businesses open, only one road closure (that we saw) and lots of festive hustle and bustle. Resilient and hardy folks 'up north' - proud to number many northerners amongst my family and friends
Came home Sunday and it's now full steam ahead getting ready for the in-laws to spend a few days with us (OH is driving back to Yorkshire tomorrow to collect them). Have just done my Christmas Day cooking / timings list and my final shop list for tomorrow.
Just cannot function without lots of lists when I am busy - have to add absolutely everything to them so I can still cope if brain melts and / or I have one too many G&T's
Looks as though you've all been busy too - a bit too much to catch up on just now so hope I haven't missed anything I ought to know about.
Nice to hear from P'doc - hope you start to feel a bit more like it now we're past the shortest day .
Also best wishes and thoughts with those of you who don't like this time of year for whatever reason. My OH has to work away over Christmas alternate years and then I find it really difficult not to be affected by the media / TV / family hyping up Christmas to the max.
We all know the reality is somewhat different but it still makes me feel somewhat excluded if I'm going to be on my own. It's my choice to be alone but it would be nice to have something 'normal' to watch / listen to / read between the 15th and 30th December - thank goodness for my trusty video recorder and books...
This year will be a nice family affair for me - but I won't forget how kind and supportive some of my Forum friends were last year when I was feeling rather low. I shall certainly be taking time out to pop into the forum on the day to say hello to anyone who wants a chat.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Just back from 4 1/2 hours at the hospital. Surgery in Feb( he'd have done it next month if we weren't on holiday), keyhole, recover time weeks, not months. Had all my pre op assessment so roll on February
Jo, so pleased you're getting somewhere now.
Topbird, we've arranged to come here on Dec 25th when the Queen is on telly. Pop along if you're free. The more the merrier.
My OH has a knee problem, after a scan they offered to have a poke about in his knee by keyhole they said wear and tear to cartilage as no recorded trauma, so age and occupation have done it Maybe playing 5 a side footie until he was 55 might have added to it. Also think Arthur present. I wish you luck and hope you get it sorted.
Went shopping this morning, all is bought for Christmas lunch. It was bedlam.
Have cleaned the sitting room and hung up some bunches of greenery with red ribbons. It was a lovely day, should have been gardening.
OH is having smoked haddock tonight, I am having salad with a few prawns, it's a 2 day of the 5/2 diet. I'd lost half a stone, then put a bit on again when we went to Norfolk.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
..., then put a bit on again when we went to Norfolk.
You might just have solved the mystery BL - I was such a skinny slip of a thing when I lived in Suffolk, just like Wonky ......... now I live in Norfolk I'm quite a bit broader - that must be the reason!
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Hosta delighted for you, the holiday will get you in tip top condition for the op
I am dashing in and out, son dil and 6 mty baby due any minute. I have been cooking all day. Love doing it tho
