Edensor is another village on the Chatsworth estate. My lot were Marsden. They used to own the land that Chatsworth was built on, living in a farmhouse that was pulled down to build a house for Joseph Paxton, the famous head gardener. They had 15 children. The eldest son sold all the land ,took the money to Ireland to make his fortune. I am descended from the sixth daughter, married off to be a farmers wife. Halle Berry , the actress is descended from the eighth daughter. When I was doing the family history, it seems that most of the Derbyshire residents have some ancestor there, they were very fertile. There is also a large group of Marsdens in Liverpool, descended from the same couple, among them Jerry Marsden of Jerry and the pacemakers.
Woken earlier than normal by a certain little 8 year old. Had a lovely meal last night although the service was a bit slow, poor girl was all on her own and it was quite busy. Just had to have an extra glass of red whilst waiting.
Hope to get a bit of gardening done as Charlie will be playing on the computer game all day I think, birthday party isn't until next Saturday. Tricky having a birthday in the school holidays.
Anyway, have a good BH all.

Morning all off to work soon so just having a quick catch up
Must have been chilly last night - lots of condensation on the windows but some sun just now.
DD - my oldest has her birthday at the beginning of July and when she was younger parties were tricky because lots of friends were away on holiday. Many Scots go then as we have a few weeks before the English hols when the prices go up! Of course, if she'd arrived on time it wouldn't have been a problem...
Pat - re your distant relatives - it's a small world really isn't it! Lovely when you have some interesting history
doc - you know what they say about checking out the mother when you marry the daughter....
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Interesting. Things have certainly changed since birth- control measures improved, haven't they? Glad about that. It's nice to be able to identify some relatives who are famous.
After talking to Hubby about the info passed to us (from cousin Penny's notes), had a thought or two about coach driving. My father told me that as a young boy he was made to run along the local headlands with a sugarbag to collect cuttlefish shell before school. He grew up from age 6 on the NSW south coast. He explained that the cuttlefish shell was the favoured finest sand paper equivalent for sanding the woodwork on fancy coaches. It may mean that they still had a connection with coach builders in Sydney. This was about 1912-1920 that he was doing this. I may be stretching things here, but it was a small world then in NSW and old connections would probably be kept up. I know that it was regarded as a very good money earner for them.
Just had a read back and chuckle at last night's shenanigans. Good way to start a Monday morning. Your bird feeder looks great Steve, though I had been under the impression you had made it.
Happy Birthday to Charlie
Hope your journey goes as planned tomorrow Fidget. Remember to take photos of the gardens
What a stunning view Fairy. Pat I hope you're feeling better today.

DD, if the party is on Saturday it won't be the holidays, back to school tomorrow.
