Pdoc, if I'd realised you were going topless this afternoon I'd have given you a wolf whistle, though I suspect Lily would have put me in room 101.
It has been a glorious day and a lot got done but I'm feeling the after effects now.
MrsG the only flying things here are the usual clouds of midges. Loved the pic of your amelanchier and can't wait to see mine in blossom. Only half the size of yours though.
Wondering now if I need to close the cold frame tonight. Min temperature is meant to be 6 degrees. What does everyone else do?
Verdun I feel so sorry for that poor man. It's inconceivable that these things can happen to vulnerable people.
Lesley - I cover everything up if the forecast is 5 or below - we are in a frost pocket so often get blitzed when the surrounding area escapes. All tucked snugly away now
Glad you had such a good time Dove. Once spent a frustrating couple of hours stuck in traffic in Stamford, heading for the A1. I did think what a lovely place it looked though. Probably should have parked up, wandered round and waited for the traffic to subside, but I was still 3 hours from home so I "persevered"
Uplifting tales of blossom. My amelanchier is going for it for the first time (year 3), and my two new amanagowas have obliged with blossom. It is lovely....thankyou Yvie and Matty for the recommendation
Got to go away tomorrow - yukkity yukk yukk (that's a Hosta-ism)
Good evening all and welcome back Dove, you sound as if you have has a marvellous time, just what you needed.
Verdun, like all above appalled at what has happened to that poor man. Can't even imagine how someone can even think about doing such a thing.
SGL, I planted Rudbeckia last year to fill a gap and they were really lovely and flowered right up until end October. Tall but not too bushy.
Been planting up seedlings all day in greenhouse, it was incredibly hot, but unlike Punkdoc the top didn't come off, I know we don't have neighbours but really is a step too far.
'Soon to be rockery' is coming along nicely, OH moving all the rubble around but he says the soil and rock formation is all my responsibility, the pressure, the pressure - eek!
Tomorrow really must finish off digging over potager and get my gladioli in, another dahlia surfaced today and 1 sunflower - 1 these are supposed to be easy kiddie plants, I planted 12.
On the plus side, guests arrived, paid up front and then said didn't want any breakfast, were out all day and leaving at 5am in the morning and doing the same again tomorrow, I like this B&B lark!
Hope you have all had/are having a lovely evening, love these long evenings in the garden too.

Lesley
very quiet on here tonight, everyone must be tired after all the hard work in the garden or salt mines.
