Well I did it again. I succumbed to the plant porn and ordered "bouquet lilies" from T&M. These are supposed to have up to 20 flowers per stem, so only one stem will fill a vase. What has been delivered are Joy series dwarf asiatic lilies. Same three colours, but no explanation. On investigation these do not appear to have anything like the number of flowers per stem. I feel another letter of complaint coming on.
My own fault. Every year I say I won't order from them , and every year I succumb to the pretty pictures.
I went to the local B&Q for nest boxes, bug hotels and bird food. Well...as soon as I saw the plant section I was gone and got lost for hours...
I started with three pink Saxifrage,(I already have white and an inbetween blush colour) then I found the English lavender which I know is great from cuttings but, but but OH wants maturity and fast. He keeps telling me to buy bigger plants to fill gaps so...besides which, I'm struggling to keep the French lavender alive at the moment.
Then I perused the shrubs because OH keeps telling me...and I got super excited about the Choisya white Dazzler, and I found a Fatzia for the north corner (already have huge one but never managed to propagate from it) and a smaller version of Pittosporum tenuilfolium Variegatum which I love and wanted a bigger version at the GC the other week but I don't drive and couldn't get a lift. I have the perfect place for it and I've heard its a fast grower so...and finally, I got Clematis Avalanche which I think I will use to cover a small wall where its more sheltered but will hopefully create a lovely flowing effect.
I also saw a five foot conifer cut into a spiral that I really wanted to bring home but again...that old problem of no transport. I will get OH to find out if B&Q deliver or rather if their cost is effective.
OKay..so the good news is that no chocolate was consumed in the process of buying these plants but now for my moment of shame...I forgot the bird houses and food
Fidget. Don't look at their catalogues again - there are plenty of others. I hope you get what you originally ordered, eventually
Rb I hope you are feeling a little better after your ceremony. Funny you should mention food as it really takes nothing to get me started. I was really good until after lunch when I polished off the last two pieces of baguette with ham and then had one of son's lagers. I did walk round the garden but don't think I've quite worked off the extra cals.
Wintersong - why am I not surprised that you succumbed
House now as clean and tidy as possible in current circumstances. Now I remember why I like upright rather than Henry-type vacs - lower back aching like wotsit!!! Shall sit down with a coffee for ten minutes before starting to make a moussaka - anyone want a coffee?
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
RB, Ive seen that roulade in sainasburys, it must be the same thing, havent had it as im still trying to avoid dairy wherever possible, that and i would eat the whole thing!
Wintersong, sounds to me you were bullied into those purchases to keep your OH happy
Dove, theres no good in making housework even worse! Enjoy your coffee break
Claws sound nice Panda
