Morning all. Slept badly as banging in fence posts yesterday upset my arthritis. Woken by the oil delivery lorry at 8.25am. Another expense. And OH leaves at midday to go to England for 5 days. So rather grumpy (me, not him).

Feel for you Lyn. I was so glad when they installed big bins for the rubbish, even if they are 3kms away. We have badgers and foxes at the top of the drive and they used to collect the rubbish at 6am.

Sorry you're not feeling well BL.  My arthritis plays up when I've done lots of weeding.  Hope it eases off soon.

Pdoc - I'll join you in the 'non-grandparent' chair, as although I have children it doesn't seem likely that I'll get any grandchildren 'of my own' but the step grandchildren have been a delight (although I didn't get to know them until they were nearly teens) and OH has a lovely niece who he very kindly shares with me. image

As for terrorists - as Lyn says, they want to be martyrs, they want to cause divisions and fear.

To fight terrorism we have to prove that it doesn't work.  We have to stand together openly - people of all faiths and none, and defend the freedoms that we hold dear by using them.  We must vote to uphold a free press, free speech, (theirs as well as ours),  and free education, no imprisonment without trial, and all the other freedoms we've defended in the past - and we must remember that the pen really is mightier than the sword, or why would they try to silence it?

Glad to see that you haven't been kidnapped RB.

Just got inspired by the Best Back Garden programme and finally went out and cleared up a large bag of twigs and leaves from the garden.  My hellebores have lots of buds and I should see them now that the old leaves have been removed.

Still many more bags to go but at least I've made a start.

It was really exciting to see all the new shoots, cheered me up no end.

Rains finally stopped here, too wet to get out today and do much. According to my bedtime reading Allotment & Garden Guide by Twigs Way (a collection of Wartime information leaflets from 1945) the only job left for me in January is to inspect my garden tools, sharpen them and wipe them with an oily rag, done the seed ordering, fruit tree pruning etc. image Was pleased to see today my cauliflower seeds have germinated in the propagator too image

To fight terrorism you have to prove it does not work. Quote.

Those people are so dedicated to their beliefs that by causing chaos people will take fright and turn to them Nothing will stop them. It is the war years all over again, take them on and defeat them, turning the other cheek will just get two black eye's instead of one. They are few we many, we have defeated terrorism before in other places, a joint effort would clean them out.

Oh well back to this lovely sunny and clear day and the washing, life goes on.

OH has left to go to England and half the heating seems to have packed up. Sitting room seems to be working but kitchen and my bedroom isn't. Plumber not answering the phone.image

Oh Busy that's awful! I hope the pumber answers the phone soon.

Feeling much more awake today: thank goodness! Unfortunately that may be due to my blood pressure at near bursting point. Aside from work being... fun (and I mean that in a very positive way), I've logged twice onto Facebook to see a 6 week puppy abandoned and a 12 week puppy dumped at a rescue as it was too much hard work. One day I will get that farm I want so there's enough space for all the abandoned animals. Certainly my heart is big enough: not sure about my car though! I genuinely could cry for some of the animals and I'm not naturally a softie.

Right. Brain break over: I just need to see how long garlic takes to pop its head above the sheets. It was planted on 8th December (I had it in pots on 31st October to get some roots going in the greenhouse) and there's no sign of anything. I know my partner has walked across the bed at least twice (after all its very easy to rake over it and not tell me) so I'm hoping he's not squashed them all! image

Afternoon. Managed a couple of hours outside, tidying up the bog garden.

It is amazing how much better I feel for just a little weeding and chopping back some old perennials.

It is true when they say gardening is good for the soul.
