Woody image  I'm glad you enjoyed East Ruston - I'm on the lookout for a fine day this month and I'll take myself out there for a day on my own just luxuriating - I might even take a sketch book!

Shame you didn't have time to call in here for a scone - I made 11 pots of Raspberry Jam especially image  However, I'm quite relieved that you didn't get to see my lawn edges image

I've not been to Beth Chatto's for years and years and years - we must do that outing next year!

You have obviously been inspired Woody.  Eucalyptus is fast growing tooimage

No chance of getting in the garden as it's still blowing a gale giving us horizontal rain so I'm cheering myself up by cleaning the ovenimage

The suck and blow thingy will certainly lighten your load lily, especially as men like to play with their gadgetsimage

How horrid for you, Runnybeak. Hope it recovers soon.

Dove, we are hoping to go to Suffolk in July and one thing we would like to do is visit Betto Chatto's garden. You said you'd like to go ???

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

BL - when do you think you might be in Suffolk? Perhaps we could make it a TWIGS outing as our intended visit to BC's in August had to be cancelled due to bad weather?

  • Afternoon all, had a hectic morning and gosh how the weather has changed, looking better now but was a very chilly start, which lasted much longer than normal, suppose it is autumn.

Enjoyed a proper Sunday dinner yesterday, think the first time since we arrived here, too hot usually (and too busy). Made the most of garden produce too, French onion soup, roast chicken with roast potatoes, green beans, stir fried leeks and sprouts with chorizo ad to finish Mary Berry's apple cake and vanilla ice-cream. Was so lovely to have so much from the garden. Anyone with apples really ought to try the apple cake recipe - so easy and so good, perfect for a mid morning bite too, bit like a Danish. image

Been planting and potting on in the greenhouse this morning, was empty a couple of weeks ago, full now and I haven't brought stuff in yet, going to be a squeeze.

Now it's warmed up going to carry on dividing stuff and spreading things about, garden club on Wednesday so hopefully will be able to swap some cuttings and seeds there. Big space to fill and OH has banned me from buying anything but essentials. image

Nice to hear those with aches and pains are recovering. image

    Happy Gardening everyone.

Just lost a long post! Was embarrassing anyway - changed mind on trees, now having a eucalyptus niphophila ( coincidence woody!) instead of cotoneaster.

    Have a good day.

Dove - have sent you a PM about Cleve West.

  • Mrs Garden - I lose posts all the time, have a laptop with fancy bits on that just wipes stuff out - have taken to writing on word and copying and pasting when I remember. But tbh, probably most of what I write deserves deletion - I do waffle on so. image

I completely understand the changing of mind, I think I am decided and then someone says something or I see something else and that's it all of a dither!

Now, must get out in that garden, have a obelisk to rescue - quick before I change my mind - poor climbing rose needs it! image

Hi all.  Very grey & damp here so I'm forcing myself to do some much-needed (and long put off) sorting of boxes of "stuff" brought from Mum's when we moved her into the Home here.  But summer lasted long enough for me to completely refurbish the shed, as well as building those "rustic steps" up to the bird feeders so I don't break my neck in the winter.  image

Clari - my parents had a wormery, because their garden was too small to fit in a compost heap.  They used the liquid which drained off, diluted 1:10 as a general fertiliser in the garden.  (It ponged too much to use on the houseplants!)  I seem to remember Dad saying you shouldn't use the wormery compost in home-made seed compost because its nutrient levels were too high.  Too much nitrogen for seedlings, apparently.  But great added to pots or used as a top dressing.

Ah well - back to the sorting of Stuff...

"Garden too small to fit in a compost heap..."  Just re-read that and realise it might be open to misinterpretation...  image
