Hi Folks, hope everyone OK.  Weather seems a bit better today after the downpours of yesterday.  Feeling a bit low after visiting mum this morning as she got upset about having no home to go to.  Makes you feel so guilty, but I know I did the right thing as she couldnt possibly manage on her own.  I think it was Lesley who asked her mum about siblings.  I have a brother and a sister but I may as well be an only child when it comes to mum (it was the same with dad come to mention if).

Anyway thats enough moaning for one day.  I have a lot to do this week as we are going on holiday and Ive done absolutely nothing except buy suntan lotion.  Have no idea where beach towels are, or anything else for that matter.  Hubby has sorted all paperwork and bookings so I never have to do anything like that but unless I get a move on we'll be living in jeans and T's not good when its high 40's.

For the first year Im a bit worried about leaving the garden Ive got such a lot of little plants and newly planted/transfered that if it doesnt rain while Im away I might end up with a dead garden on my return.  No real undergarden I can instruct.  A few friends I might ask to come on a specific day and leave the garden gate open.

I've forgotten all sorts when going on holiday, despite copious lists.

So long as you have your passport, a good credit card, and good travelling companions, the rest can be sorted.

My passport came back in 8 days. Posted on a Thursday, back the following Friday.

I was nervous, hearing about all the delays, but thats sorted.

If anyone fancies a lavender hedge, Lidl are doing 10 lavender angustifolia for £4.49.  Seem to be good strong rooted cuttings, in 2 inch square by 3 inch deep pots. (Not the tiddly seedling plugs sent out as the offer.). These can go straight in the ground without overwintering in a greenhouse.

That sounds like a great deal Fidget image

Yvie, I am sorry you seem to be abandoned by family when you and your mum need them most image

Feel a bit naughty today as all I have done so far is sat and admired my garden, specifically my tree and arch image Am gearing myself up to the creation of a joining bed to link the arch to the border, and thus create 'a room'. I am comforted by the fact that the tree hole wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, but have now hit planting g debates with myself. The original plant was for my red robin, hydrangea, and white buddleiea to fill it, but have just remembered my tree peony, so am now not sure. Am debating if I can get all four in!! What do you think?

Yvie, try not to feel bad about your mom, i bet your siblings have no such qualms! All you can do is your best, which is what you are doing x

Spin is a trade name apparently and cant be ised when not using nike spin bikes- so its now called cycle- whatever! It was a rubbish class anyway, the usual instructor is on hols so some other bloke took over, had us doing circuits! Not good image

Panda theres no point in doing it if you dont admire it, just enjoy it and do the jobs another day image

Sorry you have to work OL, having a dairy amnesty tomorrow as mom has made one of her famous cheesecakesimage, dont worry, i'll have your slice, you can have my portion of crumble image

Just popping in to say I'm still around.  Lawns have been mowed and housework has been done, team effort by OH and myself image  He'll be rewarded later, with roast belly of GOS pork with apples and sage, new pots, summer cabbage and a mustardy creamy sauceimage

Yvie, ((hugs)) siblings huh!  Been there - at least mine has now recognised that Ma has dementia - it's a shame that he spent two years thinking her word was gospel when she was really confused.    As Panda says, all you can do is your best, and remember it's your duty to look after yourself as well.  If you're poorly who's going to look after the rest of 'em?  ((hugs))

Looking forward to getting my new laptop on Wednesday - then I won't have to keep borrowing OH's ... and giving it back image

Hi all, I've just met OL , briefly as she is working, but can say she is lovely just like she is on the Forum imageimage Her ankle is still swollen and me thinks more painful than she is admitting to.image

Yvie hugs, it usually falls to one child to take the responsibilty for an ill or frail parent, all too often other siblings bury their heads in the sand, out of sight out of mind image At least you know that you are doing your best and you should feel good about that. x

Panda admire away, too often we just work in the garden and don't take the time to appreciate what we've achieved. image

Meal sounds good Dove image Pork chops and veg on menu here.

    Messages not working.

Last weekend I bought two pots of Roscoea scillifolia pink form at £3 each. Bargain. Actually even bigger bargain when I realised there was seed pods in one. One exploded yesterday and I planted them in the tray I have R. cautleyoides seedlings coming up (other end of tray. The blackbird managed to kick all the carefully spaced seeds to one end, where they germinated)

Nut, would you like the seeds off the next pod to explode?

Harvest festival here. So much fruit and veg, I'm having to get creative.

Courgette fritters with tomato, onion and basil salad, and a yoghurt/mint/cucumber dip(sort of tzatziki without the garlic)

followed by roast potatoes, beans , and steak.

followed by a fruity pudding of some sort.  image

Worcester apples and the last of the victoria plums will have to come off this afternoon. Not as many as last year, but individual apples are bigger, and very juicy. Blackberries ready. A couple of strawberries in the polytunnel that the blackbird hasn't found,

We had the first sweetcorn yesterday, as reward for all the hedge cutting. Plain boiled with salt and butter. Can't beat it.

Nice and warm out there. I have some pic to post of sedums, but need to wait till OH has done on the big computer.
