I had to deliver a signboard to the farm shop for OH. What is the farm shop next to? It's next to the GC isn't it? I had to go there for some hort. grit didn't I? Is that all I came away with? No it isn't
But I do have a good excuse
Son has had a new close-boarded fence erected along the side of his driveway. He wants honeysuckle and clematis on the fence and something attractive in the north-facing bed along the length of the fence. I'm taking cuttings/layerings of the honeysuckles and clematis on my north-facing fence so that's got that sorted.
Son is going to dig the border over and edge it and incorporate manure etc over the winter so he needs herbaceous plants for planting next spring. Right?
So me buying some Heuchera 'Electra' and a Phormium 'Yellow Wave' today to plant up a tub on my front porch for the winter, means that in the spring I'll have some Heuchera plants for his border and a Phormium for the tub on his front porch , doesn't it? Do you follow me ................. ?
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Very good logic Dove......I think I'll use that excuse from now on and say that by the time the boys get their own homes I will be able to fill their gardens with divided plants from mine Have you seen the winter pots thread? Heuchera as are a good idea, I may have to get a couple more as I really like them
It's my favourite time of the month again.......guess what posty brought The only problem is, it's full of good offers from really good suppliers like Crocus, DA (Gertrude Jekyll ) free bulbs and many more......oh dear oh dear it could be an expensive month
Anyway, today is a very very good day, apart from the above I met Lesley and we had drinks (and cake....sshhhhh ) and she gave me a few plants, how nice of her My seeds arrived from Lyn and most importantly (but only just as meeting Lesley was important), my OH has now finished work.......eeekkkkkk No going back now!!
I've never really been a heuchera fan ............. but in trying to find something that will brighten that border for son, without him having to spend much time on it, heuchera - especially the bright yellowy bronze of Electra - seemed to fit the bill. I might be getting hooked ...................
Son's house has a little south-east facing terrace at the front so I thought the yellow phormium would look good in a tub on there and again, hopefully hit won't be too temperamental.

Had lovely time meeting OL today. We didn't want to let the side down so we had cake. Thanks OL. Will there be celebrations in the Orchid household tonight?
Looking forward to seeing Panda's new arch and tree
I'm becoming a heuchera fan too. Lime marmalade and blackberry jam (or is it blackcurrant jam) Whatever - Mr Toast would like them too Verdun. I know Fairy thinks Lime marmalade looks like lettuce but as I don't grow lettuce I'm not confused Did I hear a rumour that Fairy has time off work
Spent the afternoon pulling out grass and bindweed and generally weeding and tidying, apart from I hour of ironing. Oh bother that reminds me I must get the washing in.
I'm not keen on yellowy heucheras, I think they look ill and I agree with Fairy about the lettuce like one. But I like ordinary green ones with pink or red flowers and I like dark red ones.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
This morning my car ended up in the GC carpark, with 2 Emily Mackenzie crocosmias on the back seat ..... How did that happen. Seem to have a receipt for them too - which I suppose is a blessing

I have a Heuchera Marmalade, I didn't even know what they were until I came on here but I think the leaves are nice to brighten up winter
