Need a giggle? (If I'm not made redundant tomorrow) I have booked Monday off. Its my partners birthday and we had plans to go out for the day, explore the area, walk around the park, treat him to a nice pub meal for lunch...

Anyone care to come up with suggestions as to what my darling partner might have forgotten to do that makes his attendance on this wonderful day out rather tricky? image

WW, or do you prefer Woody, when I water pots I don't use the sprinkly thing either, doesn't give a good enough soak, but I find just the end of the hose is too forceful as my hoses have Gardena joining things on them, so I put the end of the hosepipe into a watering can without a rose and water from the can pulling the hose pipe with me.

The house sitter didn't water the roses in pots enough and they have suffered a bit.

Glad you enjoyed your cake and pasty Verdun! Your garden really does sound beautiful- the type of thing that i gawk at when im on holiday image

I had a fight with my hawthorn hedge today- it won! Im covered in scratches and bruises, will have another go tomorrow, i can understand why most around her have removed their hedges! image

I do use the sprinkler wotsit, but adjust it depending on what i can be bovvered to waterimage
  • I raised a major border to the ground today after severely pruning the roses in same. It had all become overgrown, woody and weedy. Time for radical action. Edge was reshaped to permit easier mowing and next step will be to add deep composted soil layer. Now have a lovely planting opportunity, although I have no idea at moment which way I will go. Border is part shade/sun and can be dry as there are some trees nearby. It must be less maintenance heavy than before so I am inclined to go for plants that can be hoed between.

Next weeks Hampton Court trip may give me some ideas and there is always Malvern in the Autumn. Very exciting

  • No, the roses are staying although they didn't expect to be pruned today or so harshly. My expectation is that the will be growing and flowering madly in a year's time, and that by then the supporting plants will be blossoming also.
