Just back from visit to Picton Nursery and garden, national plant collection holders of asters, and a silver-gilt medal at Malvern yesterday. Garden stunning at this time of year. Will post pictures later.
Chicky your very tall "Munch" type at 150 cm. is "Algar's Pride"
"Superstar" is 5ft to mix my measurements and there is a white form, at 6 ft. "Steinbruch". Hope this helps.
I bought a selection of Aster Noveii- angliaii, for abed I have dug out recently. And some golden rod, both for garden effect and cutting next year. Excuse latin spellings please.
YvieStevie & Chicky - its going to be as is with a few more stickers to ensure everyone can tell that it is an educational vehicle and not still a riot van and then it is going to be used as part of our outreach programme to get to schools that can't come to us all across the UK (watch out Scotland!) and teach people fire safety (including practical demonstrations of how to get out of a smoke filled building) as well as the history of emergency services, basic first aid, why drugs are awful things and you need to say no, and hopefully in the future bringing in a retired police dog (need to research this further as it'll be coming home with me every day) to show students how animals help the emergency services.
You might have guessed - I'm a little excited by it! It's an amazing donation from the police service (its unfit for duty as we're having to repair it mechanically) and going to make a huge difference in how we can help younger people.
I can see the garden out the window, aside from getting the washing in and out that's all I'll be doing in the garden today. Its my day off so I'm sat on the computer writing up tour guides - its taking a lot longer than I thought!
Feet up now - early start tomorrow .... chicklet has a Monday morning rush hour driving test, and needs to meet her instructor at 7am. Looks like an early start for me then
Here is a pic of prince Heinrich - for Panda, and Lemon Queen, for Woody
And here is my new sedum/anemone combo, which i am rather pleased with
I'm up sharp to take daughter to work so I'm putting my feet up to watch the golf now. Looking forward to it as I listened to it all afternoon on the radio and it was brilliant
Have a good evening everyone
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Clari - that is all soooooooooo exciting Doing all that stuff should get you some more funding, shouldn't it?
Chicky and Woody - you've all been having fun too
The Under Gardener has been helping with the two-handed stuff and the last of the tomatoes have been picked and the plants binned, the courgette plants have been uprooted and added to the compost heap, and some round-seeded peas have been sown to overwinter and provide an early crop next year. Also lots of tidying, deadheading, watering and staking has been done, and Hefty's Mansion has been cleaned out and re-positioned in a more sheltered spot in the Little Wilderness.
It's been a lovely day
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
No Gardengirl the van came straight from the local police force! Its a little too obvious to try and steal from anyone!!
We're hoping so Dove, its all fingers and thumbs out at the minute ready to relaunch the new education programme in November (hence why on my day off I'm STILL at the computer desk!) which I'm hoping will attract interested funding sources. If not I just hope we can find another way of pulling money in to keep my job safe!
Oh well. My poor plum tree has shed all its leaves and looks in an awful state now. I'm worried I should have pulled more of the plums off (took off 50% as soon as they appeared) do they exhaust themselves or is this just autumn kicking in? I'm hoping to get a day off soon (ha!) to go and collect horse muck from a local farm - if I dug it in around the tree and put the grass back on top would it benefit the tree at all?
Plum tree shouldn't really have grass growing up to trunk - should be a bare circle at least 1m in diameter, so that you can mulch/fertilise/water without competition from the grass Bet your tree will be happier if you do that

P.S. Chicky, at Picton a 4-5 ft. blue/mauve salvia looked great in front of Lemon Queen. Sorry but forgot to bend over to get thew name.
Great anemones Panda - i have them both, and they are doing well. On phone at the mo, might post pics later

When home did more painting on Woody's small house, done some house cleaning
Planted out some pansy plants and sweet Williams and a blue delphinium plant, pruned down all old flower stalks in bee and butterfly border
Clarington did you pinch the van from Stacey Docherty
