  • I dont like monteys way but i like Toby so I feel sorry for him and alys. I wont be watching any more
  • Having read most of the comments on this page, it does seam clear Toby was a popular choice for GW.......Monty had his chance, but the program went in to a slow decline when he was presenting, OH and I are over 65 and were just getting used to Toby (he does not choose the format of the program)but he was not given a chance to prove himself.
ITV should come up with a new and exciting program.......that would show the BBC, and give Toby the chance that he so well deserves.
  • I always trusted the BBC to put on good and educational programmes. There is absolutely no chance of my younger students ever watching Monty. His presenting style is dull and tired. He is as inspiring as watching the proverbial paint dry. We need to encourage young gardeners. One day all the older gardeners will need help from the younger ones. If they are all unable to learn from GW with the change of presenter then the BBC has failed.
I am so disheartened by this dismissal of obvious public opinion in favour of having a "star" up front. I also hope that ITV decide to put on a rival programme with Toby back inspiring us again.
Come on BBC give Toby a programme that we can learn from and enjoy.
  • I can't understand, given the number of cookery programmes, currently on our screens, why there isn't more for the gardener? I would have thought was scope to deliver programmes targeting differing levels of gardening expertise from the beginner upwards?
  • Wonderful original stylish Monty. Great to have him back. Monty, I believe can enhance my existing small garden, add esoteric interest,(for those who wish to look for it) plant depth & lasting style. Toby and Alys less so. Toby does know his subject though and does deserve his own non competing style of show. But too often I found his subject matter more suitable for new gardeners & so for me it was soporific. R de T has music in her genes. Gardening is art. Music is art and R de T, I anticipate will find & present garden vistas that evoke the senses. A good foil for Monty's style. My gardening habit is over 40 years old now and it needs a presenter who can introduce new stimuli. I found MD did this in his last GW series. Recently my interest in GW withered on the vine, week by week until it was moribund. Now, with Monty back, I do look forward to its rejuvenation.
  • Fantastic news! Monty and Carol both have an obvious passion for gardening something that has been lacking for a while.
I wish Toby and Alys all the best but I fear that their introduction was another of the BBC's "Countryfile" ageist mistakes.
  • Why have the BBC spoiled my garden TV? I adored Toby and Alys as they are both clever and lovely people. I do not want to return to dreary Monty. it is all very well for gardeners with a 40 year habit to celebrate his return but some of us enjoyed Toby and Alys . As for it being a Countryfile style mistake I think bringing back Monty is exactly that. The whole point about that was that the existing woman was replaced by some so called stars and that is what is happening here. Monty has had his go and plenty of people found him very dull and I will be with those who will not be watching any more.
Not so much a rejuvenation of the programme more like dragging it back to the grave and zombifying it.
  • Wow what a lot of comments and most of them like Toby too. I think that Toby and Alys are lovely and so please BBC give them back.Monty is just like this creepy, soppy bloke from work. He thinks he knows it all too but I liked Toby he is clever and helpful and cheerful. Please put them back or I shall stop watching tooBBC.
  • Thank goodness for Monty's return-I will now actually watch Gardeners' World again. Toby and Alys did not give me any desire to go out into my garden after watching the programme- most of the time I turned over the channel. I think we all have our favourites and Monty was always mine.
  • Love Toby....love Alys.....Monty bores me.
    Bad move BBC.....
