Absolutely over the moon that Monty is returning I must admit to not watching the last series of Gardeners World as it just didnt have the same viewing factor for me.
Am personally not a fan of Monty - too surreal and moody. Toby was pleasant if not dynamic, and Alys appealed to those with a more 'unrestricted' approach to very established ideas. Well done! Both will be missed, but Monty is NOT the solution to falling ratings... I DO know how to sow cabbage seeds,so please don't show that again, and while I like veg, flowers are what makes my heart sing! I hope the new series keeps a balance between these, adding some new design ideas as these are what keeps us(and our gardens)inspired during the seasons.
Sad to hear Tony is leaving, less so Alys. I don't find Monty's input to GW has much to say to me and, as others have noted, he seems rather obsessed by veg. I will give the new line up a try but I am not convinced I will stick with it. With all respect to Rachel, I struggle to see what she will bring to the programme.
I do think moving the setting to a real garden is a good one although whether Monty D's is the right one remains to be seen. I hope the presenters and the BBC take note of all the comments and try to balance the programmes to appeal to as broad a range of gardeners as possible.
Wonderful news! And what a joy to see Monty's garden which I've read a lot about in his book. I've missed the love of a garden and its plants that Monty demonstrates so clearly and his belief which I share that our gardens can nurture us, refresh our spirits, and sustain us through the worse of times (as well as exhausting and impoverishing us!).
BBC doing what it is good at, wasting our money. Why not keep the same format but include Monty Don as an extra interest. Toby has his own style which will be missed. Really a backward step.
I have nothing against Monty Don but I was beginning to get used to Toby and Alys. To begin with I wasn't sure but they do 'grow' on you (sorry no pun intended) and they both gave practical help. I hope they get another gardening programme.
