Can't believe Toby and Alys have been dropped just like that. They are so straightforward and practical, the recent Garderners' World was very much back on track, whereas it went adrift and out of touch when Monty was presenting. Probably not his fault, rather the production team's, but (and it is a big BUT) Monty does tend to put you on a guilt trip all the time over organic gardening, much as I would like to be organic, its often a case of needs must. I want information and ideas not a lecture, which is how Monty comes over. I will truly miss Toby. P.S. I do get the impression at times that the production team have not got a clue about gardening!!!
What a shame, Toby was a good presenter on GW,enjoyed watching him at greenacre,and he also added abit of humour, is it just going to boring veg again zzzzz!
Looking through these comments, it seems very, very clear that there is an audience for two gardening show a week, geared to the clear division in the viewers each week. Why not a show for younger, less experienced gardeners, and then one for those who are "a little further down the garden path"? I think it is a mistake to try to be all things to all people, especially in what has become a mostly 30-minute format! More gardening! More Toby and Alys, and Monty - cake and eating it too, as many have said.
I am very sorry indeed that Toby will not be returning. I have been gardening for about 25 years but still found he had a wealth of useful tips to impart. He will be missed.
Great news! Loved Monty's approach and stopped watching soon after Toby took over. Also pleased Alys is going as she was just to saccharine - though Rachael is no better !
i like monty,but how come tobys not doing it anymore i liked he seemed to put more of a mondern take on things for the younger generation like me as i am only 38 ,i would like to know whats happend to alys fowler as well could you please let me know
Glad to hear that Monty Don is coming back but sad to hear that we are losing Alys who was a breath of fresh air. I'm happy also that you are returning to using a real garden, not a sort of experimental set-up.
Great to have Monty back.........stopped watching Gardener's World as it became a 'game' show with very little gardening and alot of talk.........will certainly be watching the programme in the Spring
