I used to post regularly here but not in recent years. However I appreciate it's still been a meeting place for many gardeners and a mine of information and helpful advice. I felt sad when I saw that email. I've learned a lot from members on the site that I still benefit from now, not to mention the plant and seed swaps. And clearly the forum is very popular still, it seems a strange decision to close it.
Terrible news, I really can’t believe it as a relatively new member who has enjoyed the forum. It seems to be a popular place and a brilliant resource for gardening queries. I suspect plenty of people who aren’t able to get out and meet others or do much gardening themselves enjoy it too.
(PS I’m 32 and not interested in the ‘new’ things like TikTok or videos and whatever else GW might have planned to try and attract a younger audience).
As a lurker, you may not always see me on here but I will be lost without this forum. I don't do real people being a country girl living in the city....I don't find many kindred spirits about! But this place has been such comfort to me as I have a lonely existence. Thank you everyone for just being your lovely selves. I will try gardener's corner when I have some spare time but if we lose touch please all of you remember how important you all are! Collectively we made enough gardeners to fill a village and now they are burning down our village hall!! Thank you everyone x
Great post, @WonkyWomble, you have expressed it all so well. All the best. Hope to see you on GC sometime.😊
Sorry to witness the demise of the forum. 😥😥😥😡😡😡I am Spartacus
I know some people hate the word, but I feel totally discombobulated this morning. I am supposed to be an accomplished sort of fellow: long medical career, worked in some seriously dangerous war zones, an adviser to governments of both hues etc etc, but I feel lost. As many know I have suffered with severe depression on and off for many years, and also from a debilitating illness for which I can thank Saddam Hussain. This site has been a lifeline for me, and at the moment I am not sure I have the will to go through the process of joining a new forum.
When you are ready, @punkdoc , I hope you do. I just had a go and it only took a minute to put in my username and confirm my email address.
I just can't get over how bad a decision this is to shut the forum.
This forum does the work a nature charity would do - in terms of increasing the interest in and love of nature, plant life, animals, all things natural and beautiful, our beautiful British land, birds and wildlife. Except it does it much better than any charity could.
Not to mention the social aspect of bringing together so many people like this, increasing happiness and connection, bringing daily happiness to many.
This is something that had built up over years, gaining traction as it gathers more and more of us together.
Then they just decide to shut it - no reason given.
I don't know how many members in total this site has, but asking a token amount like £1 - £10 a year from each us would surely have been enough for server costs, I don't know what anyone else thinks. I would have happily paid a small charge to keep the forum going.
Well, I’ve managed to register on the Gardeners Corner forum, and even done a couple of posts. Had a warm welcome from some existing members, and it was lovely to see some familiar names from here. I’ve been able to use my existing name, so I’m looking forward to keeping in touch with more of you.
