@clematisdorset I haven't donated in the past but probably will in the future to keep a UK based gardening forum running, especially after what happened to this forum. I did enquire on how much I should donate a while ago but was made clear they is no obligation to donate or how much you wish to donate .
Its all kindly run by volunteers . They is a thread on GC on donations if you want to read through it .
Thank you @perki, that is really helpful. I am hoping that being run in this way, GC might not be so open to the vagaries of big business that this forum seems to have been - and therefore more likely to last.
Sorry to witness the demise of the forum. 😥😥😥😡😡😡I am Spartacus
I've not posted on here for a long time as we moved house and the garden has not come close to being done yet. But we were gearing up to start work on it this year and I'm sure I would have been trying to get lots of tips and advice for our new garden project, as I have done before. This is a real shame. There are so many people here that have a lot of knowledge and experience.
I received an email this afternoon from "Gardenersworld.com" advising of the closure but that I could still visit the forum for a few more days. However, when I went to "Gardenersworld.com" there was no sign of the word "Forum", so I couldn't proceed! I DID notice, though, the word "Premium" appearing in a number of places on that main home-page, indicating that the whole site has become "monetised". Presumably the web-owners decided not to bother monetising the forum too. Anyway, thankfully many years ago I had saved the Gardenersworld forum log-in page amongst my bookmarks, and a quick search of my bookmarks provided me with the way in.
After reading the first five pages of comments in this thread, it seems that most people are now planning on re-grouping in Gardeners Corner, so I will sign up there.
[...] Most of the regulars here tend to just use recent discussions, so it's just a different approach, and one I've always thought should have been used here as it would have saved people having to answer questions about laurel hedges 200 times a year !
... including the sometimes caustic remarks of papi Jo's anti-laurel brigade.
What a pity! I don't come here that often but I always get good advice from much more experienced gardeners. I will have to make a note of everything I've learned here. Possibly see you all at Gardeners Corner, though I do sometimes post on Reddit at gardeninguk.
I'd like to say a quick thank you to everyone that has helped me over the years, your help and advice has been invaluable and very much appreciated
To Paul @LunarSea from a fellow photographer, your images are some of the best I have seen, you've got a great eye for a picture and will look out for you on GC, take care matey.
Such a nice man Thanks Andy. Hope to see your best moth images in the Gallery on GC. I've already created a few albums there myself. Unfortunately in-thread posting of images is a lot worse than on GW, but the Gallery is a separate bolt-on feature with much better handling of images.
And well done for the other thing you said at the end of your post. Seems he's already got a presence over in our new abode though.
Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border. I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
