It's so ironic that this will probably be the most read and responded to thread on this forum, when it's about its demise.
What I'm mostly annoyed about this situation is that all the time contributed by everyone to understand issues and propose solutions will be lost. Surely all the search engine traffic accounted for quite a bit of the total into the GW domain...it seems to be like a bad business decision by someone who doesn't understand the medium and just want to see a certain number on a spreadsheet.
As everyone has said above, a big thanks to everyone who has contributed so much of their time and genuinely cared to help total strangers. It's not the time to regurgitate old unpleasantness it happens in any forum where people coexist. On the whole this place has been a positive experience for the vast majority of people and frankly if you make the jump to GC then block the odd person that aggravated you on here.
We can't get on with everyone and frankly in the large scheme of things, it really doesn't matter. Curate your online experience to what you want it to be like.
I'm really going to miss this place. Its been literally invaluable as both a learning resource and generally good natured spot to lurk. Terrible shame they've made this decision.
Devastated. This forum has been amazing, and has definitely prevented some of my plants from untimely demise Special thanks for @Fairygirl and @Dovefromabove
@clematisdorset I haven't donated in the past but probably will in the future to keep a UK based gardening forum running, especially after what happened to this forum. I did enquire on how much I should donate a while ago but was made clear they is no obligation to donate or how much you wish to donate .
Its all kindly run by volunteers . They is a thread on GC on donations if you want to read through it .
Big mistake. Regularly dropping into the forum keeps one in touch with Gardener's World (note the deliberately placed apostrophe implying the 'world of the gardener' not the fatuous plural version) and this is more likely to lead to the purchasing of an online subscription. Thousands of keen gardeners have used this site for years to glean advice from other amateur gardeners but the BBC would rather focus on 'the development of new features tools and services' than keep this very successful forum going. Well, goodbye, BBC GW, you won't be seeing me again, and thank you to all of you loyal forum supporters who have provided me with some great advice over the years.
It's been a bad last few months for me (I've had a Lupus flare, my father in law died, my dad's been diagnosed with cancer...), so apologies for the sudden and sustained absence. Gardening was the last thing on my mind for a while. With things settling down a bit here and spring coming, time to get back into the garden and the forum. But seemingly not the forum. It is sad but I do understand it.
I'm not sure about joining another forum, to be honest I always felt a right numpty here with you all being so much more experienced than me. So I think I shall just say thank you for your advice, kindness and friendship. I wish you all beautiful and productive gardens, full of joy (and insects), and every happiness.
If everyone cancelled their subscription to GW magazine and stopped looking at the website, it would hurt Immediate Media. My OH who worked in communications for years says that IM have been laying of people for quite a while now.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
I just signed up for GC. Took less than 5 minutes. Very straightforward. But need to now await Admin approval. But I’m not sure that I like its layout; a bit ‘busy’ for me.

That's put me off.
