I got out in the garden for an hour, and tackled some more laurel. Got to go carefully now in case I disturb any nest builders, but Iām only taking off the long outlier branches, and have a good view into the leafy areas. I now have a decent amount of cuttings ready to shred, but the forecast rain arrived, so Iāve downed tools and weāve headed to Ikea. I have a couple of impulse purchases to return, and at least we can have a stroll round the store in the dry. OH wants to pop into Wickes and B and Q in the hope that they might have some lawnmowers on display. He has identified one he likes on line, but itās always good to see things in real life. The old one has a couple of rust holes in the bodywork, and the pull cord to start it is a nuisance. I canāt do it at all, which surprises me, as Iāve always had quite strong arms. Sudden and violent moves have never been in my repertoire though!
Afternoon all, well it started out well, sunny and dry this morning although a bit on the chilly side so I wrapped up warm and planted the three Anemone Coronaria I bought recently. The label said it liked sandy soil which surprised me as my existing ones are doing well in our clay soil. I need to do a lot weeding as soon as it's dry enough by the look of things.
Glad you enjoyed your long weekend away @punkdoc. Hopefully a real tonic to your state of mind. The hip discomfort should start to ease from now on as well.
Wish we had an Ikea nearer to us but my bank balance is probably thankful! Used to be one of my favourite shops and I still enjoy an occasional visit for bits and pieces.
Good that you feel more like yourself @coccinella and was able to do some gardening. It's odd that I felt energetic enough to do nearly 3 hours outside but today had to give up after an hour or so as I felt breathless. Oh well, an hour is better than nothing and it gives me a sense of achievement to get small jobs done and dusted.
Glad you had some sunshine at last @Badly_Maintained, makes all the difference.
I was kneeling on my kneeler weeding the gravel slope bed and I've twisted my back. Had to stop gardening, luckily most of it is done for the time being. Can't get comfy.
I could never pull mower cords either @Ergates. We have battery mowers now and a ride on tractor in France.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Much excitement⦠people have put the garden waste bin out!! I thought it wasnāt until BST so fingers crossed. (Yes, this counts as exciting in my life).
Hope everyone is ok - even those with bad backs, colds, bad weather or other woes. Ā

Gardening in Central NorfolkĀ on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
He did a very good job. Cleaned from the roof down to the heater box in the lounge room. Ā This helps Hubby whose knees and hips arenāt what they were.Ā
I asked Hubby to dig up some old photos of some of our rain tanks.
The tanks close to the shed collect rain water, then Hubby pumps the water (using a petrol pump) up to the top of the hill to the two large storage tanks Ā which then can be gravity fed to the house.Ā
The tank beside the house collects rainwater and can be pumped (by electricity) into the house system. Ā The little building beside the two shed tanks is where the bore pump is and can be electronically pumped into the garden tank which I havenāt shown you.Ā
Sounds complicated, but itās nice to have lovely clean rain water to drink. ( not that we have a choice).
Ive just had a video call with the Endocrinologist in Canberra who has been watching my thyroid situation, and (clapping hands), he said he doesnāt need to see me any more unless my GP feels the need. šš. Great! Ā One less appt to worry about.Ā
Now I only need to arrange Pixelās vet annual check up. Weāve had so many appointments between us that I missed the January regular time for her. However she seems very well, so Iām not worried about her.
ho hum. What to do for the rest of the day. Maybe, have an afternoon snooze. š
