Afternoon all, dull, dry but rather windy today. I've spent a good hour in the garden pruning my Polish Spirit clematis, cutting back a star jasmine on the wall and pulling out dead leaves/stems from the dierama on the raised bed. The retaining sleepers are beginning to lean forward so I may have to get my landscape chappy to come and have a look. Might also ask him to construct a couple of steps up to the top of the bed so I don't have to use the small stepladder. Think it might be safer!
That's really tough @punkdoc but obviously the sleeping pills aren't working so time to go cold turkey?Ā Hostafan's suggestion of a sunshine holiday might be a good idea to readjust your sleeping patterns.
@didyw, you seem to do a lot of funding applications, is there no-one else to help out? Not worth getting all stressed out and losing sleep over if it all's voluntary but easier said than done.
I'll tell you a story,Ā 'tis a strange and weird tale: Of a factory in my valley,Ā not fed by road or rail. It's built beneath the mountain,Ā beneath the coal and clay. It's where we make the outside-halves,Ā that'll play for Wales one day.
Down by the council houses,Ā where on a quiet day, You can hear the giant enginesĀ digging up the clay. No naked lights or matchesĀ where the raw material's found In the four-foot seams of outside-halves,Ā two miles below the ground.
We've camouflaged the mouth with stones,Ā from Bradford Northern spies:Ā >From plastic 'E-Type' EnglishmenĀ with promise in their eyes. And we've boarded up the entranceĀ for the way must not be shown; And we'll tell them all to **** offĀ and make their ******* own!
My Dad works down in arms and legsĀ where production's running high.Ā It's he that checks the wooden mouldsĀ and stacks them forty high, But he's had some rejects lately,Ā 'cos there's such a big demand; So he sells them to the northern clubs,Ā and stamps them 'second-hand'.
It's there where Harry Dampers works,Ā it's where the money's best,Ā But now his health is failingĀ and the dust lies on his chest. But he'll get his compensationĀ though his health's gone off the railsĀ When he sees that finished productĀ score the winning try for Wales.
But now the belts are empty,Ā came a sadness with the dawn.Ā And the body-press is idle,Ā and the valley's blinds are drawn.Ā Disaster struck this morningĀ when a fitter's mate named RonĀ Cracked the mould of solid gold,Ā that once made Barry John.
Old Harry Dampers (struck with grief),Ā received the final call. And old Harry has been taken toĀ the greatest outside-half of all. Whose hands are kind and gentle,Ā though they bear the mark of nails, So Harry stamped him 'Number Ten',Ā 'cos he was made in Wales.
And the wheels will go on turning,Ā and trams will run on rails, To that factory 'neath the mountainĀ making outside-halves for Wales.Ā
Yes RIP Barry John - another from the 1971 Lion's Tour. Ā Ā Another amazing rugby player. Another pin-up for the girls I worked with!! Ā He was adored in NZ. (as a superb player).
Ā The weather is beautiful at the moment - I crossed paths with a beautiful male pheasant yesterday afternoon on my bike/run with the dog. Ā No she didn't chase it. Ā She's no hunting dog I'm afraid. Ā He flew low into a market garden so I hope he gets to survive - the hunters are still popping their guns - so annoying.
Ā I am itching to start sowing my seeds especially the chilli and peppers but I am holding off. Ā Probably have to wait until the end of February if last spring is anything to go by. Ā It was cold until the second half of May.

Hope your neck gets better soon Dove. Take it easy and ask to be pampered until it gets better. Today is my little brothers birthday. He did well to treat himself and his wife to a long weekend in Budapest.Ā Today a helper is coming to give me a hand to tidy the back of the front garden, he said he would be here after ten.Ā Definitely still too early for me @tui34. Itchy hands at this time of year.
@ Dovefromabove Ā I used to frequently wake with a stiff neck. The solution I found was a simple bean-filled travel cushion, used with a single pillow or none. It holds my neck in a comfortable position and is quiet unless I move a lot. Might be worth a try for you?
Morning everyone,Ā another bad night here too. I've not really slept properly since I hurt my arm, now with this heavy cold it's worse. To cap it all,Ā my wife has succumbed to the infection too, so between us we are a bit crook. IĀ know it's trivial in the big scheme hopefully all better soon.Ā All the best toĀ others with various ailments.Ā

I'll tell you a story,Ā
'tis a strange and weird tale:
Of a factory in my valley,Ā
not fed by road or rail.
It's built beneath the mountain,Ā
beneath the coal and clay.

Went to an enjoyable jazz evening Friday night with light food and wine in the restaurant accompanied by Philippe Léogé singing a homage to Claude Nougaro before the main concert.  Nearly 5 hours of music!

Oh dear @Dovefromabove, I hope your neck improves during the day.
I didn't do any gardening yesterday, there was a chilly wind and I didn't feel like it. There is still a wind but I can see the sun shining.
OH is going to town today to get his photo done for his Visa for France. I may go with him and get a few things in the SM.
