I'd forgotten about pancakes. Was going to do a quick early supper as I'm going to a Gardening Club talk in a local village hall. The man used to work at Blooms if Bressingham.
I don't know about Latin but that word sounds French, LB. Arbre means tree in French, may have come from Latin. Sounds like "no trees" so I imagine the plain is dry.
We are going to the local town to choose some block pavers for our front path which is made from bricks which are crumbling.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Good morning everyone .I am busy trying to locate a parcel that is supposed to have been delivered . It’s quite cool here .I am planning some time in the garden if it doesn’t rain .
I might have chosen Latin at school if I'd known that it had quiz value @Ladybird4!
I sat through most of the triple bill last night feeling inadequate as usual. Until any sport came up. Got the Asian tennis players on the OC wall (Nadal was always going to be a red herring!), the Shane Warne questions and World Cup Final years on UC. Then returned to being extremely puzzled
Gosh @rowlandscastle444 - seriously but I was just thinking about you today whilst planting my snowdrops. Wondering how you were doing and what new treasures you may have seen popping up in your new garden. Good to see you but your tale of unobtainable meds reminded me that 3 years ago I had a very similar experience. It was a very anxious time so I can appreciate how you must be feeling. Fingers crossed a solution is found for you - and soon.
Thank you for your concern @Ladybird4 Being on anti epileptic medications has it's own challenges. Not being able to obtain some of those, leaves me prone to more seizures, more falls, more head injuries, and more hospital visits. The alternative meds do not work in the same way, and with one of those now not available either, is not helpful. Glad you got your snowdrops planted. I found a clump in our new garden. They would not have been my choice, but I'll leave them be. We are finding new stuff, and to be honest, I've no idea what most of them are!! I've been gardening all my life, but my epilepsy has caused too many blows to the head, and memory issues, and what I really need is my Dad to be here and identify them for me. Then, I can write the names down - and lose the list. Or type them into my mobile phone and pc. But, Dad is in and out of A&E at the moment, so not able to come to visit. Plus, we've moved further away from them!! My sister has recommended an app to use, but I'll be blowed if I can operate it 🤔!! Hope you have a good day.
Morning all later arrivals. Busy, I love language and its derivatives. Arbor is Latin for 'tree' hence the English words arboretum and arboreal relating to trees. Null is from the Latin nullus which just means 'not any'. You have worked it out exactly. The Nullarbor Plain in Australia is a vast area of dry land where there is an almost complete lack of trees. The quiz question was 'From the Latin for 'no trees', what is the name of the large arid area of South Australia between the Victoria Desert and the Great Australian Bight?
@rowlandscastle444 you have many friends on here who can help you with identification - we all love a challenge - so if you can take pictures of your mystery plants you can post them here and we'll all have a go at identifying them for you. Still keeping everything crossed that your life becomes a little easier for you.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Ruby, I hope that your parcel turns up for you soon. Its a wretched nuisance when that happens. If it has 'supposedly' been delivered, can you check the photographic evidence online.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
LB ,no photographic evidence . However a few minutes ago a neighbour from down the road brought my parcel . It had been left outside his house . He was saying his parcels often turn up at someone else’s house.I was concerned because the parcel contained high dosage iron tablets .Getting into children’s hands could have been very dangerous .I didn’t ask courier to leave the parcel outside .Anyway all is well . Rowlandcastle444. So sorry to read that you are having difficulty getting the right tablets for you . It must be quite concerning .My OH has weekly blackouts which are not controlled .He has had (like you)bumps on the head many times .Also fractured ribs damaged knees and many more injuries which I guess you will recognise .My OH hasn’t got epilepsy. His condition is very obscure and took decades for medics to recognise .I do hope you get the medication that you need soon . Best wishes to you .
The sun has come out and despite only being 8 degrees it feels and looks like another Spring day. Lots of bulbs are popping up all over the garden including my beloved Fritillaries, lots of them coming through the soil. @rowlandscastle444 , it must be a worry for,you with all thieve medication issues, a worry you could well do without. Could you source something on line so that you could advise your GP that you have found maybe a different outlet? As long as it is a reputable and safe site of course. As LB said, we can try and help you identify any known plants coming through. Good luck tracing your parcel Rubee. Remember the trouble I had the other week? Took me long enough to find the photo evidence mind but once I did I found it at the neighbours.
Glad you found your parcel @Rubee. People here post regularly on the local website asking if anyone has seen their parcels.
We went to the local town to look at paving blocks to replace our crumbling front path. Saw and ordered some from J....n that were half the price OH had seen on the Internet and we liked the colour better too. OH is well pleased. Then we went to Tsco to get a few bits. I don't think we'll need to do a proper weekly shop this week. Then, the highpoint for me, we went to the small family run GC, my favourite, and I bought violas, 2 delphiniums and a variegated aubretia for the gravel slope bed.
It's raining so I'll wield the heavy metal thingy this afternoon in front of the TV, maybe the Great Pottery Throwdown.
