Hazel, I have never had any success growing freesias. You must have the magic touch!
@Red maple it was slightly frosty here this morning but so far it is dry. I filled the bird feeder in the back garden earlier and my fingers went into dead spider mode with the cold.

    Morning all,

Just come in from the garden. Been out since just before 8am. BIL was coming to collect a couple of bikes from the shed, so I've had a tidy. It looks more ordered and there is room to get in and get to stuff now (previously, if it wasn't at the front, something had to come out before you could get at anything further back). Proper spring clean still required when it gets warmer, including the conversion of a 'lot of bits of old wood' into a cold frame.

I've also put another of my slate planters on the gravel at the front. Got rid of a load of the stones/bricks that I've been digging up into it. I'll go out later and fill the rest with a good mix of garden compost, MPC and perlite. Not sure what I'll plant into it yet.

As well as some more weeding of the Somme-like bare bed, I've dug a planting hole in the middle of it. As with one of the apple trees a couple of metres away, I hit sand!

Goodness me @Biglad. The last time I saw that much sand was at Formby beach! At least that section of your garden should be free draining. When you've finished with your shed I've a garage that could do with some clearance! Hint hint! BTW I love the sound of your slate planters but do you have to be careful of overheating and possible root damage or do you keep them in the shade?

I'm beginning to wonder if our house is built on a beach @Ladybird4

The slate planters are in the front garden and will be largely in the shade if we ever get any sun :DΒ Β The afternoon sun bakes the back garden.

I've never succeeded with freesias either.

I'm pleased with my haircut and OH likes it too.

Is that in the rugby @Ladybird4? I'm not really paying attention to the Six Nations.

Found some sprouting bulbs in the shed. Not sure what they are - maybe allium Purple Sensation. I've bunged them all in a pot anyway. See what happens.

I hope we get some dry weather again tomorrow. A full weekend of progress would be nice!

Thanks for your birthday messages. @Ladybird4 some naughty double primulas which smell amazing and 2 pots of snowdrops jumped into my bag at the garden centre. I saw snowdrops everywhere in Wales so delicate and pure I had to try with them. They will stay in a little terracotta pot then be planted in the garden after flowering. Fingers crossed they do well I know they can be tricky.Β

A very good morning everyone. Yup, @Biglad, I was watching the Six Nations. We squeaked through against Wales. Very pleased you are happy with your haircut Busy.
Debs - I am willing to bet you will be successful with your snowdrops. That is the best way to buy them. Getting dry bulbs in the Autumn is when many snowdrops fail - they do not like being dry at all. I am expecting 50 more snowdrops in the green next week to add to my front garden - I just love them. The double primulas sound wonderful. What colours have you bought?
