Morning all - or should I say Good Afternoon! lost track of time. Woke late to sunshine so tiptoed down to kitchen and had my breakfast alone. OH had a long busy day yesterday so I thought he deserved a lie in. Then I had my usual walk which was quite pleasant and quite warm at 7c in the sunshine. Trifle colder coming back facing west but saw the hazel catkins in the orchard beginning to elongate so it won't be long before spring is here. Now having coffee and trying to decide what to do next. Gardening or housework?
OH has dug out his old ski socks to wear in this cold weather, says they're very toasty. He did offer them to the grandson for their forthcoming ski trip but as I thought, they don't really cut the mustard with the young ones. Got to be Nike!
Right, decided to have a walk round the garden, better get out there before the sun disappears.
Evening. We had up to 7 or 8 degrees today but, you’ve guessed it, it blimming rained for an hour so that will freeze tonight - boo. Looks like a chilly week ahead for all in UK.
Just back from MIL and woof visit, and the chicken dinner is now on, so time for a bit of my book until the beep.
Big fan of the woolly socks here - my fave ones are fleecy lined - they were called Chalet Socks ?
I felt a lot better this afternoon and it's been quite a bit warmer today. I planted my new red rose in the centre of the round rose bed in a cardboard box filled with new earth and compost then I weeded the bed and mulched it with compost. Took a while as I worked slowly.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Didn’t get much above 3C here today, but at least it’s dry. I’ve spent a few hours today working on a jigsaw puzzle. Haven’t done one since lockdown, but I was in a mood to relax, and I do feel better for it. Made a roast dinner, and an apple pie to follow, so there was a definite Sunday feel to the day. I’m tempted to just hibernate till spring!
I enjoyed my hour or so outside in the sunshine. Moved some snowdrops to where I think there are better conditions for them - time will tell. Found hyacinths beginning to emerge so hastily cloched them before the squirrels find them. I have ordered 100 tent pegs online - goodness knows what I do with them but I do seem to use a lot.
Enjoy your holiday @Hostafan1 - 22c sounds heaven right now.
Glad you got your new red rose planted at last @Busy-Lizzie.
We've had a roast dinner @Ergates but followed that with the last of the chocolates, not apple pie. It's been ages since I made one of those, I find crumbles are quicker.
Just watched a magical programme on the New Forest, a place dear to both our hearts as we both know it from our childhoods - many happy picnics especially.
there is something to be said about no news @Pat E. Snowy Lux this morning, I heard the salting contraption at around 5 this morning, having had a sleepless night that was the icing on the cake 😒. I did wonder if I could fit inside Hosta's suitcase only to discover that he is already there. Enjoy the warm @Hostafan1.
It must have been quite a trip down memory lane to watch the Detectorists. @Dovefromabove that is one of my favourite tv programmes.
I am supposed to have breakfast as I am taking antibiotics, anyone with a handy slice of cake?
Homemade wholemeal toast and honey any good? Watching the Detectorists is like going home @coccinella … I’ve known Framlingham and the folk who live there really well all my life … I went to school there, used the library every week as a child and adult … attended church and Sunday school, worked there, played there, had my wedding reception there, had so many friends there and both Wonky and her brother have lived there in the past.
Some of the scenes have some dear friends (one who has since died) acting in them them, and the scenes showing the stacks of wooden pallets and potato storage sheds were filmed on my family’s farm. I know Lance’s flat and the shop run by his ex wife … it really is just like that … the same interior exactly … I’ve bought several things from there over the years … and of course, I know the pub 😎 It’s such a special programme for me … as well as being totally brilliant. We have it recorded for a bit of indulgence from time to time.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
When we were house hunting we started in Suffolk and really liked Framlingham but we couldn't find anywhere we liked in our budget so ended up in south Norfolk.
I must make up the bed with clean bedding, take the bins to the village bins, fill up the bird feeders (handy man does it when I'm away) and wash the kitchen floor. We are off to catch the ferry tomorrow. I don't feel ready to leave here but we have to if OH wants to come back in the spring. Dratted Brexit.
Remembered that I've forgotten to prune the grape vine, must be done in the winter.
