    Good morning all,

today feels less cold even at -2. The sky looks laden with snow. Yesterday I ordered some Heatgen t-shirts for OH from M&S international. I am just not used to see himĀ
looking for jumpers, it was always me with the shivers and now he reaches for woollies before I do. Anyway, warm underwear is on its way.Ā

Done the saturday shopping, done the cappuccino and chocolate croissant.Ā I bought sushi for lunch so I have the rest of the morning to do nothing.

It looks lovely @D0rdogne_Damsel I love the sea in winter. I love the sea at any time really, but I live so far from it 😢 ,can't have everything, can you?

    Take care all

Morning everybody, still only 1c here so waiting with a coffee to see if it warms up a bitĀ before venturing out. I've dug out my furry snood so I can keep my ears warm!

OH went off early to his meeting in Buckinghamshire so it's going to be a very quiet day here. Gardening's out so more decluttering perhaps.

That beach looks gorgeous @D0rdogne_Damsel, wish I was there.

Such a shame you had to miss the funeral @punkdoc, your friend sounded a great character. Do hope you start to feel much better soon.

Heated underwear sounds such a good idea @coccinella, I must investigate further.
DIL showed me her new thermal vest top from M & S, black with sparkly bits and said it wasn't a bit scratchy.

Goodness @Pat E, you're certainly having some weird weather down under.

Hope @AnnaB is okay up on her mountain and anybody else living in remote areas.

Morning all, clear and cold again today, but I think it's going to change after today.
I do like a good send off @punkdoc, when OH's father (he was Scottish) died we gaveĀ him a rousing send off with some good Scottish songs.
I see you are in for another cold blast and maybe some snow up there in the UK, I hope it doesn't come this far down, I would rather like some of @Pat Es heat.
  • Hello all.
An anecdote for you: I'm acquainted with a young lady in Dublin who is actively looking for a significant other.Ā  One day she arrived home from work to find a course listing for a local college of further education had arrived with her mail.Ā  Leafing through it, a course called "Basic car maintenance" caught her eye.Ā  She reckoned it would afford her the opportunity to meet a young man.Ā  When she called to sign up the next day, the college employee told her that the course was almost full already, and it was lucky she phoned when she did.Ā  So, one evening a few weeks later, she arrived at the college expecting to be the only young lady in a room full of young men, with the odds heavily in her favour.Ā  As it turned out the room was full of other young ladies who had also signed up hoping to meet men.Ā  The only man in the room was the married tutor...
Stay safe in the heat @Pat EĀ
Stay warm and safe everyone else.

Your friend sounds as if he was a lovely man @punkdoc - and what a send-off!Ā  I wonder how many were surprised when the music actually started playing.Ā  Clever.

Thanks for the lovely warming pic @D0rdogne_Damsel.Ā  Hats off to you for getting the Saturday shop done so early @coccinella.

I understand how you feel about your group @Lizzie27.Ā  Our local historical society has talks on subjects of local interest but they are quite boring, or too amateurish (the speaker gets the slides out of order, rambles on too long etc).Ā  I'm on the committee though (of course you are everyone cries!) and we tried to stage an intervention with the Chair who normally books all the speakers himself.Ā  But this month's talk is being given by someone who has talked many times before because the person we recommended pulled out.Ā  Membership is dwindling.Ā  Most are older even than me and I suspect the society's days are numbered.Ā  Ā

however -Ā  I shall be giving my apologies for this month's talk as I have tickets for a film of the Vermeer exhibition at the Rijksmuseum last year, being shown at our local theatre.Ā  Not quite as good as being there, and I did toy with the idea of hopping on a plane from Norwich to Amsterdam to see it in person - but all tickets sold out.

Made pancakes and bacon for breakfast this morning, to fortify us for a trip to the garden centre. It was bitterly cold out, only 1C. We got the squirrel baffle that we wanted, and I got the wander round the store that I was promised. OH was very good, and managed to entertain himself in the book section. As expected, there were a lot of Christmas decorations in the clearance sale, but also a lot of clothing and kitchenware. Even at the sale prices, there was nothing to tempt me, but I did buy two pairs of knee high socks. These are my secret weapon for keeping warm in the winter. Very cosy under trousers, but not so easy to find. I ended up buying a pack of children’s grey school socks this winter, the biggest size do fit me.
Home and warm, and the bird feeders are back in place, and hopefully squirrel proof again. OH is going to have ham, egg and chips for a late lunch. I’m going to make ā€˜comfort spaghetti’ for myself! Spaghetti with an egg poached in the same saucepan, then drained and served with a little tomato ketchup, mustard and some black pepper stirred through it, and plenty of grated cheese. Sounds terrible, but a favourite of mine for a quick meal with store cupboard basics.
I will get some laundry done this afternoon, but not feeling particularly enthusiastic. OH has found a rugby match to watch.

I'm wearing knee high socks today @Ergates. When I looked for them in Norfolk I couldn't find any locally. Maybe they sell them in Norwich.

No chance of planting that rose today. It's freezing cold and I have an upset tummy. I have managed to take down the decorations, Christmas tree and cards, wasn't too difficult, but I'm too wobbly to go up the loft ladder at the moment so they are in the study.

Good afternoon everyone,Ā  another grey damp day here. Not doing much, just pottering about. IĀ  did pop out for petrolĀ  earlier,Ā  I figure if this Middle east situation deteriorates more prices my rise again.
I pruned the two standard roses in the front garden, but I never seem to get them quite right. (See curmudgeon thread for more).Ā Ā

Enjoy the film of the exhibition @didyw.Ā

That made me laugh @Badly_Maintained and bought back memories. I was the only female who enrolled in the college's woodwork class one year (boys were an optional extra!). In my defence I did enjoy woodwork and studied it again in later life at a Women's Co-operative where I made a bookcase, coffee table and blanket chest out of an old wardrobe amongst other items.

Shame you don't feel well @Busy-Lizzie and didn't get to plant your rose but there will be other suitable days soon.

I did manage to move my metal trellis panel, the sun came out after lunch, although it was still freezing. It didn't take long but I had to prune some rose branches out of the way and finished just as OH got home. He'd also stocked up on petrol, the more expensive kind which he does get occasionally, was actually cheaper than the bog standard stuff at other petrol stations he saw on the way home.

I don't have many days left @Lizzie27, we leave for England on Tuesday.

My grandmother did woodwork. I have a child's carved chair that she made.
