milder here this morning and a bit of rain and drizzle but quite a pleasant dog walk this morning. It's not a gardening day though

Grey & drizzly here.  Hopefully that won't deter the shoppers going to the big Christmas Street market in town.   So glad I didn't have to organise it this year!  I was planning on visiting but I just don't have the energy after nearly a week in bed with this dreadful cough & cold.

Had a call from my daughter.  Her OH and youngest daughter have had to take one of their cats to the vet.  I advised that, at 15, it is Rosie's time and that they need to accept that rather than look for costly treatments which they can ill afford.  Time to say goodbye.  Very sad for them all.  This is the cat that ran away from home when they last moved and was found a year later. The other cat was fine without her sister and I suspect being the solo cat in the house again will give her an additional lease of life, even though she is the same age.

    Good afternoon,

we have rain here now after waking up to snow. I’m hoping it will wash it all away. It doesn’t feel so bitingly cold as it has been.

Spent the morning dressing the tree - much earlier than usual, but OH has his hand op tomorrow, and I needed his help to set it up.

Sad news about your daughters cat @didyw, but as you say, it’s probably the kindest thing to do.

    Lovely photos @Badly_Maintained. Beautiful scenery.
  • Evening all,

I've managed a quick read back, lovely dress @Busy-Lizzie, love the colour especially. Good luck on your travels @Hostafan1 , having a few issues of my own at the moment...

Our train directly back to Paris was cancelled so we've had to get on one via Lille, it was very close to being full ( no staff to advise at departing station) so I bought tickets to be sure we'd have a place, 155€. Now I don't know how to get a refund on my original ticket.... website (surprise, surprise) not helpful.... Be glad of any advice, especially off French posters. We've now a very tight change time to catch the linking train in Paris so fingers crossed and running shoes on, we've bought metro tickets in advance to speed up the process, really don't want a night in Paris for so many reasons.

Apart from this last hiccup we've had a wonderful weekend, even squeezed in a trip to Mons.

    Must dash, pulling into station.

I rarely travel by train in France @D0rdogne_Damsel, no decent connections for where I want to go and they are so often on strike, so I'm afraid I can't help. Good luck.

Feeling sad, had news of the death of an old friend's OH, the dreaded C.

Hope you got home ok, @D0rdogne_Damsel. Ive attached an article from yesterday’s Times, re the Booking.com problems. Might be useful.
Had a lovely walk round the block before lunch. Should have taken a camera, there were some interesting fungi. Pouring with rain now. Daughter and SIL have arrived safely in Yorkshire for a short break, very relieved that they didn’t get stuck in snow en route. Much milder here tonight.

Evening everybody, we had rain this morning but it's much warmer so enjoyed our usual walk this morning in the fresh air. Not sure what I've done since then, apart from some bedlinen changing and washing. Enjoyed a long chat with my son just now which was good.

Beautiful pics @Badly_Maintained, looks very scenic.

Sorry to hear your news @Busy-Lizzie, especially tough on your friend at this time of year.

Hope you get home okay @D0rdogne_Damsel.

Just popped the lamb in the oven, we're eating a bit later tonight as we treated ourselves to filled baguettes from the bakery for lunch - on the large side!
