Afternoon folks, as you have all commented, how can it be December already! Thanks Dove for starting off the new thread.

I'm very pleased to report the satisfactory completion of two current projects, we finally signed our updated Wills this morning and the driveway was completed just over an hour ago. Such a relief on both counts.

We had two huge lorries containing two batches of hot tarmac waiting when we got back at lunchtime, they nearly blocked our narrow lane and both had to undertake many turns to reverse just inside the driveway. It was more of a 6 point than a 3 point turn! The base layer tarmac was laid first and then a thicker than normal finer layer (45cm) on top because of the freezing conditions. It was -6 here overnight and -1 all day. We can walk on the drive already but have to wait 24 hours before driving the car on it. We also have warning tape tied right across the entrance to deter any would-be visitors.
I have waited 16 years for this (it has been a long hard slog to persuade OH to have it done!!!) so I'm ecstatic. Looks so much better and removes the falling hazards.

I've just skimmed through the posts but too many, I'm afraid, to comment upon apart from wishing everybody a safe and pleasant weekend.

That’s great, @Lizzie27. Will make such a difference.
Have a wonderful trip, @D0rdogne_Damsel, sounds like you have Charlie for the whole weekend! I’m sure you’ll enjoy every minute. Wish it was warmer.
Had a lovely walk in the sun,  but there was a biting north wind. Only my face was cold though, vest, warm jumper, padded jacket and a wind proof raincoat on top. I did look a bit like a Michelin Man, but so what!
Picked up some of my favourite wine on special offer in Waitrose, plus makings for pigs in blankets, and mince for homemade burgers. Will get those ready and into the freezer this evening.
Hope  you all manage to keep snug and warm over the weekend, and @didyw and @Busy-Lizzie’s OH recover quickly from their coughs.

Its been bitter here today, had to go out for my annual eye check and the cold really made my chest bad, I struggled to walk up quite a gentle hill. Seems the chickens are coming home to roost.

    Evening.
Plenty of chat in work about how they can’t believe it’s December, so thought this was appropriate:

    Take care folks.

The waiters brought me a cake and sang happy birthday. Kinda reinforced the reality of being here alone.

I had a piece, gave a bit to an elderly Russian lady, and the rest to a fat Scottish family.
I'm sure they'll polish it off.

  • But what a lovely kind thought @Hostafan1 … and it is the thought that counts … 🥰

Birthday Greetings Hosta. Make the most of the warm… and buy an electric blanket on the way home so you don't go
    into shock!

  • Good morning all 😊 ☕️
-2C and a bit of freezing fog. Son said last night that if it’s bad today he’ll take OH to work instead of me … bless him.

Good morning everyone.  Good afternoon to you @Pat E

It is certainly cold here but not as cold as the snap the UK and the rest of France are having.  The snow ploughs are working 24 hours.  Such a difference in temperature.  We have a biting wind today of 80kmph  which, although chillsome, sweeps away the clouds and lets the sun peep through!!

Staying warm inside and working through some nice meals to prepare over Christmas so that I won't be "slaving" in the kitchen.  I tried Tataki with cod yesterday  -  usually done with tuna, but my brother (a keen fisherman) said tuna was off as he used it so much in NZ for bait that the smell alone was off-putting.  Not a problem - just as good with a lump of cod or salmon for that matter.

The driveway looks lovely @Lizzie27  I'm sure your OH is happy with the work (and the bill)!!

That's a bit worrying @punkdoc about your chest.  I hope you felt better once inside in the warm.

Nice thought @Hostafan1 to dedicate you a cake for your birthday.  Yes, I am well aware what it is to be on your tod.  It does hammer home from time to time.

Hello to Vivians - today is your special day!

Temps clair à la Sainte Viviane,
Temps clair pendant quarante jours et une semaine.

     Here's hoping....!

     Have a pleasant Saturday all!
