    Morning all.

There was a howling gale in the night, woke me a couple of times.

It didn't rain so we walked to our friends' house last night. The street was looking pretty, quite a lot of the houses have lights on them, but quite tastefully done.

We had a lovely Christmassy dinner with decorations and crackers. They are the friends who also have a house in France. They are going to help OH apply for a Visa so he can stay longer in France in summer.

    Good morning all

so sorry @punkdoc. It's a PITA this new virus that is going around and it lasts long. I hope you and Moira get better soon, don't forget that you also had a bereavement which I am sure takes away motivation in general. Hugs.

No sun here either since mid October, it's dreary. But at least it is not raining so I might go for a short walk to give these sickly bones an airing.
    But first coffee.

  • Morning all,
Sorry to hear of all your friends with cancer @tui34
Glad to hear @WonkyWomble & her Husband are improving @Dovefromabove
Continued best wishes to @punkdoc & his OH
Best wishes also to @AnnaB I can only hope your long covid will improve soon.
The recent storms here brought further flooding to one of the biggest towns in the district.  Although it was only 30cm, they were only just beginning to recover from the previous floods.  Geography is their enemy, it is a low-lying town unfortunately.
Hope everyone's Christmas preparations continue to go well.  Stay safe out there folks.

After last nights howling gale, we have woken to bright sunshine. Breakfast out, I just threw on a winter jumper without thinking, and the sun is pouring in through the big glass window next to me. I’m getting rather too warm! Looks promising for getting the green bins filled for Wednesday. OH has offered to come out and help, I have mixed feelings about that. I do find gardening very restful when I’m on my own, and he has a habit of defaulting into ‘boss’ mode. I can escape that by heading off to another section of the garden to do my own thing, but I’d far rather he got on with some of the indoor DIY jobs that are beyond  my skill level.
So sorry to hear of your slow recovery @punkdoc. Rest and patience seem to be the order of the day, and trying to eat a bit more. Toast is my go to when I don’t have much appetite or the energy to cook anything. Not a fan of soup.

    Good afternoon,

We had some sunshine this morning, but we’re back to grey and dismal now.
Had an enjoyable party with the natter group this morning - shan’t require any lunch.

Sorry that you are still feeling so rough @punkdoc. Take it easy and try to build your strength up with soup and perhaps a poached egg if you can face it. I used to enjoy a slice of toast and blackcurrant jam when I was beginning to face food again after a bout of illness.

Just back from my covid booster and flu jab. But the nurse called out both my and my OH's names.  He should have been there too - but he didn't get the letter.  So I asked at reception if he could go back on the waiting list - turns out he is already on it.  All very odd.

Still don't feel fully recovered from last week's cough and cold.  It seems these things take ages to recover from, so hope @punkdoc can be a bit more patient.

Hi all, thankfully, after very high winds overnight, it's been quite pleasant all day. We're back from a festive lunch in Stoke with my younger brother and his wife, 6 in all. Brother gets quite tired with the effort of eating and talking so we left earlier than intended so  that his wife could take him  home for a snooze. It's awfully sad to see him so devoid of energy.

Better news is that my eldest brother is settling into his respite home, has had some visitors and has chatted to some of the other people there. He's quite shy so it's a bit of an effort for him.

Managed to pick up on the way over an attractive basket of hyacinths for SIL.

Saw massive floods as far as we could see in Derbyshire, the River Trent had burst its banks with a vengeance. We drove over a very ancient and long causeway bridge so the area is well known for flooding.

Hope you're both taking vitamin pills @punkdoc, even if you don't feel like eating much.
Toast is a start, toasted cheese would be even better. I like a mashed banana sandwich when I'm poorly.

  • Good evening all,

I do truly hope @punkdoc and Moira are feeling better, it seems to have been lingering for ages, whatever it is.

My little cat Sprinkles seems to like high places @Pat E, I have a snuggly sock box and a scarf box on top of my wardrobe and she is forever shifting them about to get a comfortable position up there. Apparently, it makes them feel superior. 🙄

I'm extremely busy at the moment, a lot of tight deadlines, Mince Pies,  Christmas cakes etc. A lunch for 50 tomorrow, I've been prepping all day... All good, but for the first time, after doing this for years, I'm starting to feel tired at the end of the day, knees aching, fingers sore and not as driven and motivated by it all. Must be an age thing.

I suppose, also, dealing with the ex is also draining, he just keeps finding ways to wind me up. He's been talking to Charlie about our shared arrangements, pushing for more time, Charlie's not happy about it, and neither am I. Another discussion is required and I need to put my foot down. Charlie has said what he wants to do too. He's so manipulative though, very tricky to get through to him. I'll be so glad when Charlie is actually away at uni and we don't have these battles every weekend.

Christmastime is also difficult, all the happy family stuff, the reality is so different in real life for me, but I'll try and make the best of it.

I'm sure there's many others on here in the same boat. Least we have this 'happy place ' to rant on. 😅
