    @rowlandscastle444 .
A nice introduction to your new neighbourhood. Hope the settling in is going well, it's bound to feel very strange for several weeks but exciting too.

All I've done today is to throw a folderful of the garden designs and plant lists I did for a local primary school into the compost bin. I have it all in my mind and on the computer so don't need the paper copies.

That's the way to do it! @Lizzie27
Half a dozen unused glasses cases in the bin. Apparently charity shops don't want them.
I'm going to get rid of one of those wooden storage things with six little drawers that I got from IKEA many moons ago. I know full well that even  I label the little drawers, I'll never be bothered to put things back in after use. I know some of my limitations.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • It definitely feels strange, @Lizzie27
Went to the local church this morning, and when asked whether we we're new, said yes. How long have we lived in the area? Since Wednesday evening!!

That was our only foray out today. It's been cold, wet and windy. Plus we have been emptying boxes - something we'll be doing for a while yet.
  • Have you moved far in terms of miles, @rowlandscastle444?
  • @ViewAhead
As the crow flies, we've only moved about 35 miles. It's about 40 miles on the most direct road route. So not far, but far enough to make a substantial difference.
I needed a bungalow, and there were bungalows in our old road, and even close by, but nothing with the size plot that we wanted - at least, not within our price bracket.
Even so, we had to make do with one room less than we'd originally planned as our minimum.
  • Unpacking, but not yet come across our iron, Bibles or toolbox.
  • I came across 2 vegetable peelers in my Odds and Sods kitchen drawer. You know, the drawer where all of the bits and bobs get put as, not sure what it came off, what it is,   but will be needed one day.
My sister sent them to me when I was bewailing having thrown yet another peeler on the compost heap. I tried using each of them without success and abandoned them to the drawer, brand new, hardly used, too good to bin. I gave one of them another try, still no use. Then I had an electric light bulb moment. I wondered if they were left-handed peelers. Felt the blades and think I have solved the problem.
I have added them to my new charity pile. Along with 3 pestles and mortars. One handmade in a pottery class by me, a small black and white marble one, never used,  and an olive wood pestle and glass apothecary mortar. They have all joined the ceramic moneybox pig. Empty.

Been following on here but not read or posted for a while. Warm wishes for your new home @rowlandscastle444 and wife. It sounded pretty stressful so take your time now.

Curveball with the de-cluttering… Christmas bits!

I thought I would edit my cupboard full of decorations and festive things but there’s definitely sentimental stuff there! I have a bag of old cards, so they will probably go. I find this season a bit sad as my late Mum loved Christmas but I try to carry on some traditions so I can remember her. I still have a beautiful candle ‘Christmas Rose’ that was a present from her on her last Christmas so that is always pride of place. There is still a fragrance from it too 🌹

My garden and I live in South Wales.

I ought to fetch the Christmas decorations down from the loft and see if there's anything that can go in the charity shop bags before I drop them off next weekend. I'm not an early decorator - it usually doesn't get done until the weekend before Christmas, otherwise I get fed up of it all gathering dust well before twelfth night.

That's the same with us @JennyJ, we don't tend to put stuff up too early. However, our little grandchild is staying overnight with us next weekend, ( we're taking him to his first panto):so will have to summon up some motivation to get something out for him. His house is lit up inside and out.
