Almost everyone we knew are dead now,  I think I’ll probably send about 10 cards,  if that.

My WhatsApp is really cluttered  -   and I have thousands of unread emails. Maybe online clutter will be my next thing🤔
In the days when you could add your own stuff to your itunes library, I managed to accumulate north of a thousand files.  These are on a laptop too old to update, so could not be transferred when I got a new device.  Every so often, I get it all out from storage and have a go sorting.  Might as well just wipe the lot really as unless I burn them all to cds, they can't be moved.  I do have an old ipod somewhere that I could load them onto, but am not sure it charges any more.

The "what to do with old tech" problem is an issue even for confirmed minimalists like myself. 😁 I do draw the line at having any personal cloud storage though.
  • When I buy a new pc, I remove the hard drive from the old, for security.
So what to do with the old ones?

My OH takes an electric drill to old hard drives that he has no use for, after saving anything he wants off them and reformatting them. Then they go to the recycling centre. We do have some in housings that can be connected to a computer via USB cable to use for external storage or backups, but really old ones don't have enough capacity to be worth bothering with.

When my laptop died I  took it to a local shop and they transferred all my photos and videos onto my new iPad.

  • A French customer came into the tearoom today with an envelope full of old English coins (from the 1970's), she asked would I like to take them from her as a sentimental reminder of the old days in the UK, a souvenir... I was very pleased with myself, but also torn, when I refused them.... why and what would I do with them. more clutter... but a little bit of me was sorry to have said no...

  • But equally, a picture my son made when he was 6 is still hanging (by a thread) on my wall.....

I know I’m out of synch with the forum and probably the world at large but I love sending and receiving Christmas Cards. We send about 100 a year, two thirds posted, one third hand delivered almost of all of those being in the village. Mostly we send Royal Academy or National Gallery cards.

I like the sentiment of staying in touch with people if only once a year and sharing snippets of news with the detail personalised to the recipients. I have no time for round robins aka boast posts unless they are tongue in cheek send ups with a heavy dose of humour and self deprecation Nor, I’m afraid, do I like electronic cards. You can’t stand those up on the mantlepiece. And, trying here not to be too impolite, I would prefer not to receive schmaltzy Jacqui Lawson cards.

I only send about 20 Christmas cards a year now, and really only to those I don’t see very often. I ring or email close relatives. I buy our cards direct from a local charity, and write an individual message to each recipient. I do enjoy hearing from people who mean something to me. For example, I’ve just had my annual card from one of my lecturers from uni. Despite  not actually having seen her for nearly fifty years, we have kept up with each other’s news of children, careers, and life in retirement. I’d really miss that.
