Good lord @Ergates, your OH does sound a lost cause. I thought mine was bad enough as he only has two garages filled with stuff and I don't need to go in either.
What will you do when you move?

Hopefully, when our current house is in a fit state to sell, ie all the diy finished, we can get rid of the multiple tools, plus the compressor, plus the welder ( bought just in case, the middle aisle of Lidl has a lot to answer for!) Plus the spare skirting board and architrave stacked up on the stairs. If anyone fancies building the tail plane section of a light aircraft, we have all the pieces under the stairs, plus rivet guns and the like!
I’m no saint myself. One of the other bedrooms is packed out with my sewing machine and overlocker, plus blank canvases, paints, jewellery making gear, fabrics etc. These days, I can just about summon enough energy to cook dinner and keep the laundry basket from overflowing. Might have to do a car boot sale before we are ready to move. The local Men’s Shed might welcome some donations of tools and materials. For the moment, I live in hope that I’ll find some energy to use my spare time more constructively .

If you will have plastic Quality Street /Roses/cheese cracker tubs to dispose of in the New Year (or maybe a shed or garage full already !), you can take them to your nearest Greene King pub for recycling.
The money raised will go to McMillan Cancer Support.

A chance to declutter, support a good cause and maybe have a swift half or cheeky glass of wine at the same time :) .

@Ergates is DIY ever finished?   There's always something needs doing here from upcycling to decorating to hanging pictures and odd repairs.   We do keep the tools tucked away tho.  I also have a sewing room upstairs with my sewing machine permanently set up plus patterns, fabrics, books etc.   Overflow fabric is stored in a walk-in closet...  Must stop adding to it!

That’s good about the plastic tubs @AnniD - I take it they can’t go in normal plastic recycle then? My MIL has tons of them however they are vessels for her home-made bakes so are well-used 😉

To be honest l'm not 100% certain @AuntyRach, but l think most areas take them for recycling.
I thought it was a good idea to raise money for charity though  :)

@AnniD, you've just reminded me that I have 3 or 4 of those stashed away on a rack in the utility cupboard. Not sure whey I'm keeping them but they might just come in handy!

Made a start on tidying up/decluttering the loft yesterday and must finish it today, ready for our visitors on Friday. We have a fold down sofa up there for occasional overnight stays when we have a houseful.

  • Out went a convector heater yesterday. Bought in 1989 when we had no heating upstairs. Still works, but legs broken in the move. Plus, we have no upstairs now.

Okay, only in the garage, so perhaps considered half out.

In comes a pile of food and drink in preparation for Christmas.
  • Food and drink doesn't count as "in" because these will disappear.  Unless, that is, you have indulged in a bottle of creme de menthe or similar, which will have one measure drunk and then will sit at the back of a cupboard, gathering dust and stickiness. 😁

No purchased food or drink will sit at the back of a cupboard gathering dust. Homemade jams and bottled fruit does. Still finding ones from three years ago, much to my wife's despair!!
    😁
