We have a string of fairy lights along the top of our bed head, which I switch on when I want to make the room look more inviting. Have to switch them off if I want to watch tv in bed, as the reflection is quite distracting!
I had some bottle lights for Christmas decorations and I'm thinking of keeping a few of the white ones out. We had one on the landing and one in the bathroom when we had guests over Christmas and they made effective nightlights, so no-one needed to switch the main lights on in the night (the bathroom one is a pull-cord and makes a surprisingly loud click). They'd also be good to have around in a power cut (safer than candles with two long-haired, swishy-tailed cats in the house).

@JennyJ, we also have a really noisy pull cord switch in the bathroom. We bought a little motion sensor battery light from Lidl, which comes on in the dark. Not very pretty though, but it does the job.
We too have a noisy pull cord - perhaps they are standard for a bathroom, unless the switch is outside the room.
Wife knows her way about in the dark. I just clumsily bang into every possible wall, door, cabinet etc, enroute. My balance in the dark is iffy too.
What I need is something like those strips on the floor of aeroplanes, which guide you in the direction of the emergency exit. After all, in the middle of the night it CAN be an emergency!!😳🤕
Our en-suite's light switch also activates the fan so my OH keeps a tiny torch by his side of the bed to light his way and avoid waking me up. I can see in the dark, mainly because we have a street light not far away.
We have two light switches in our en-suite shower room - one does just a light over the mirror and the other does 3 very bright downlighters and an extractor fan. Can't tell you how long it took OH to learn not to flick the noisy one in the middle of the night.

I can get up in the night without putting any lights on. OH puts the bathroom light on but it usually doesn't wake me (the noisy fan has a separate switch outside the bathroom - there's a big window so no need to have the fan come on with the light). When my parents were staying I expected that they would need some light on the landing as well, and that the light switch noise might wake them, hence the bottle lights.

It's cold outside so it looks like a good de-cluttering day - but I can't summon much enthusiasm at the moment. I'll finish my coffee and then decide what to do.
Lights that are linked to extractor fans are so annoying. I read somewhere that they are not allowed to build them like that anymore and the two switches have to be separate.
Sorry to witness the demise of the forum. 😥😥😥😡😡😡I am Spartacus
