Did you wear them in your sandals?

Nope! Always with trainers - and often with my Craghoppers that unzip just above the knees!! 😳
  • This is probably not REAL decluttering, but we have a new bookcase being delivered this week (I hope), and I will finally be able to empty the dozen or so (more like "or so") boxes of books that came from the fixed bookshelves in our old house.
Basically, I've agreed that if there are any books that cannot be accommodated, then I will get rid of them. And they are all MY books, so my wife likes the idea.
A rash promise, but I also have agreed to see which pictures can go on the walls - and the more I can get up (and out from under the bed), the more space I'll have, to put books under the bed, and effectively "accommodated". 😁
But, we will certainly create space - space where the empty boxes will have been.

I am a bit enamoured of the show 'Sort your life out' (four series). Some of the stories are heart-breaking and the clear outs are genuinely life changing. I have learnt a lot and have lots of the ideas around my house. Watching a programme always has me clearing out some corner or other, sorting paperwork or fixing something somewhere. Very inspiring.

I saw comments on the threads about the trickiness of the valuation of precious items. I found it useful to have an auctioneer in to give a value for a handful of pieces. They gave me a print out of photos of the pieces with an estimation of their age, maker and potential price at auction. (Tables, pot, chest). This can be useful for insurance purposes too.

I now have this doc in my will / probate file, so that executors don't have to guess which few pieces are worth anything. (I don't want them to worry about anything or have to faff).  The photos are invaluable. I can recommend the process. The below link is for the type of group that might be useful.
(I don't know the company - I'm just giving it as an example of the services some auctioneers offer).

  • Bookcase delivered to the correct room, books unpacked (13 boxes of them), and gently shoved onto shelves.
Wife is pleased to have more floor space!!
    Now for a rest. 😊

Hope there’s room on the shelves for more books @rowlandscastle444 😂

Just a few inches. Enough for a little expansion. If I don't fill it, my wife will.  Subtly.

I've always found it difficult to actually get rid of books.  Check along the shelves and think " Aha, that one can go - I've read that ".  Open it up to check and make sure and start reading - so long ago, it's definitely worth another read -  repeat along the other shelves - same scenario - taken up to read in bed or back on the shelf  ;)
I do remember being horrified once on a trip to the local tip - the Cardboard skip was full of books ( hard and paper back ). Had to be restrained from climbing in to see if there was something I hadn't read  ;)
Glad your house move is going well @rowlandscastle444 - your home is your castle ( or so they say ).

I can't be doing with paper books - horrible smelly things that take up space and gather dust. Apart from cookery books which don't go black when you're right in the middle of cooking something.
