Left the clothes for now. I need a positive outcome so I've gone for out of date patent medicines & make up, more cables and bits in the bottom of the drawers that will get stuck in the hoover. I have three empty drawers now.
Interestingly, I found a large box full of useful - looking empty boxes. The kind gifts come in - too nice to throw away. I'm not cured yet😕

I was going through a couple of high top cupboards that I can only access by a short ladder at the weekend. I knew I had a 'brand new, unwrapped' duvet cover and pillow case set up there but was quite shocked when I found the receipt in the bag dated 1999! Fortunately the pattern and colour is still to my liking and matches my bedroom colour scheme. Also found a lovely pair of pyjamas, new in the bag, receipt dated 2016!

I try not to buy things that I don't need straight away, but the problem is when I do need something, new duvet cover or whatever, there's a good chance that what's "in" and therefore available won't be to my liking, so if I see something I like that I'll need sooner or later, if it's a good price I tend to buy it. Bad habit I know.

    😂

It'll be a lot better made than the ones on the market today, that's for sure.

Decluttering is extremely hard to do when your OH is a hoarder and everything I put on the chuck pile gets moved to the keep pile 🙄 We have been thinking of moving for a while and even got as far as getting an estate agent in. Then we decided we weren’t quite ready to move after all, so all motivation evaporated.

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that the amount of stuff expands to fill the space available. Unfortunately we have ten-times the amount of garage/outhouse space than we did in the last place. Yep, they are all stuffed to the rafters!

This morning I filled two carrier bags of paperbooks to take to the charity shop on the way to the GP's.

OH came back from his walk, has inspected the bags and removed some of 'my' books he says he wants to read again!

    I'm losing the battle.

  • My wife was going through towels and bedding. Came down to indicate which items she thought could be got rid of. I basically agreed, except for retaining some towels for padding of breakables in the move.
So left me to throw the unwanted stuff. Which I duly did.
Ten minutes later she was back again. Had found a duvet cover plus one pillow case. The other I had just put in the bin. Out it comes - she changed her mind. She likes the agapanthus set!!
And I thought I was indecisive!!

Now, we need to move by the end of November. We should be exchanging contracts next week, so need to be decisive. So many cardboard boxes around, cluttering up the house.

I understand @Nollie as we have stuff that has expanded to fill all the available space. Especially books (mainly mine) and old postcards and prints (all mine).

Good idea to keep old towels and suchlike for packing. You can throw them out after the move.
Our possessions have expanded to fill the available space too.

  • Our council will take any fabric items as long as they are in a translucent bag marked textiles.
A local charity came on Monday and collected two bags of clothes, some vases, a suitcase, some unopened rolls of foil wrapping paper, and a box of books. The space is now ready for me to re-fill. I am still working on reducing my now unused crafting materials, bric a bac, and books.
It is soooo painful and exhausting.

I took two bags of clothing I didn't want to the charity shop yesterday but came back with a rather nice coffee coloured blouse I saw on the way out  - not the right idea!

Today I've delved into a couple of the kitchen wall cupboards and found loads of Ikea glasses from my 60th birthday party - long past! Two glass salad oil dispensers and sundry glass dishes. I've had to put back OH's collection of engraved beer glasses from various beer festivals over the last 30 years.

I also found upstairs several half used rolls of a very thick brown paper but can't think what on earth I used them for. We had to endure old bare floorboards for several months whilst the house was being renovated around us so I'm wondering whether I used the paper under old rugs in the bedroom.
