Interesting idea to mark make up stuff to bin when it gets old. I did bring a permanent Sharpie pen into the bedroom, with the intention of putting the purchase date on lipsticks etc, just haven’t got round to it yet! I do mark up tins and packets in the kitchen with the best before date in big letters / numbers so they get used in order. My eyesight isn’t good enough for the tiny writing!
  • @Lizzie27 Get a small piece of cardboard, put a dab of nailvarnish on and add the date. Keep it with your supplies.

Are you sure you aren't my mum? She writes the best before dates on all the tins and packets with a big black marker pen before she puts them away, and uses them in strict rotation.

    Some good ideas there, thanks.
It would be good if the make up manufacturers put the date on their stuff as well. The tiny pots saying 6 mths or 12 months are pretty useless.
I find it infuriating when the best before dates are too small to read and I then have to hunt for my glasses. Hadn't thought of marking them with a big Sharpie!

I use a sharpie marker on eggs when I put them in the fridge. Works for us.

The blobs of nail polish idea has reminded me to put a blob on every snail I see in the garden. (Different shade of polish each year). Not quite decluttering but more about having an idea about how many flowers I expect to be demolished this year.

I’m pretty sure I’m not your mum! Sounds like we have something in common though!
This is my ‘tins and jars’ drawer.

  • OOOOOOO! How neat and tidy! And how few! I am envious. Last week I found several jars of homemade Whiskey and Seville Orange Marmalade in the back of a cupboard. I had forgotten they were there. No need to make more marmalade until I have eaten them. Except for the lime marmalade, I have just started making!.

That is just my tins and jars drawer, I have another for cereals, pasta and packs of coffee, plus the ‘naughty’ drawer, where any biscuits and sweet stuff live.
When OH redid our kitchen during lockdown, one of the things we decided on was as few cupboards as possible. All the lower cabinets have drawers, so it is easy to check what’s in there, and get right to the back, so every inch is useable. Got really fed up in the past having to get on my hands and knees and pull everything out to get to the back. It’s been much easier to keep organised, with ‘a place for everything, and everything in its place’.
