I did that @rowlandscastle444. I realised that l only referred to my cookery books for a few recipes in each one, so scanned the ones l wanted and gave the books to the charity shop. I bought an unused photo album from the same shop and stuck the recipes inside. Easy to find and a win win for the charity
@Joyce Goldenlily I reduced my cookery book collection when we moved here 7 years ago but still have about 3m of them on a bookcase in the kitchen.
Not one of them has a recipe for plain, simple, sage and onion stuffing!
I never cook turkey or roast always spatchcock chicken but I bought a capon for NY and wanted a stuffing.
If anyone fancies a different stuffing rather than the old Sage and Onion one, I have one here which I picked up in Spain nearly 20 years ago. Too long to reproduce here but happy to pass on if anyone wants to try something a bit more interesting. Contains fruit and nuts as well.
Ah books are a difficult one in the de-cluttering game I find. I have a collection of cookery books in the kitchen and I don’t think I’ve needed to use one more than a couple of times the last few years. When I need a recipe, I usually look online. Some of the books were presents, some inherited, and some never actually used at all. I would happily cull most of my novels, but OH not so keen. I have a good collection of gardening books (of course) and I wouldn’t part with most of those as I do dip in from time to time. As for other books, I think the harsh reality is that they will remain in the bookcase until I move again and then the practical head will probably win out for a big sort out and donation.
My next de-clutter opportunity is this weekend as the Christmas stuff heads back up into the Christmas cupboard. I can’t see me parting with much there though. I will do a charity shop run soon though as have some jigsaws and a few items of clothes so at least that’s something.
My wife has already this morning removed all the decorations from the Christmas tree, and packed everything back in the boxes. It will be my task to transfer it to the loft, sometime. Cards are coming down, a few at a time. She always insists it's done by 6th January. I'm not such a stickler. Does it really matter!?
As for sorting out, I need to decide where to put all my books!! OH would suggest the local charity shop. Aaarrgghhh!! No, not the bin, or loft either!!
I've never understood why people feel the need to display their books in open shelves or a bookcase. I would no more want to display them than a collection pickles or tinned soup.
Books is a hot topic with us too. Most of ours are in English so the French charity shops ( of which there are already very few compared to the UK) don’t take them. We managed to give some away a couple of years ago but the qty is growing again, especially as I did not help by bringing back quite a few of my mums cookery books.
Christmas stuff was limited this year with 2 young kittens running around, of course not having used my existing breakables I went out and bought cheaper non breakables, adding to the overall volume needing weeded out!
we are determined to tackle the store room, but it just feels like such an uninteresting task that it keeps getting replaced by more fun stuff.
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.
I'm hopeless at decluttering. I decided the other day that I needed a new bucket as the one I have been using lost it's handle ages ago and the top edge has now started disintegrating. So I found buckets in Tesco, £2 each so I bought 2, came home and stacked them in the old broken one.

I display them, so that I can get at them easily. That said, I would be happy for them to be on shelves in a cupboard - but that costs more.
Edited to add: If there are doors, then I have to consider the space needed for opening.

....
It matters not at all (unless you're superstitious) but it's as good a target as any to get the Christmas decorations down. I've a few bits and bobs left to take down today. My vases of greenery (holly - no berries, a bit of conifer and some sarcococca) aren't showing even a hint of withering so I've bought a bunch of flowers from the shops and stuck those in with the greenery, so it doesn't look like Christmas decs any more!
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
