Trying to declutter but without much success.

  • Thank you. Just been emptying the filing cabinet - wife has three drawers, I get one (the bottom one)!! Mind you, she still runs her own business, so probably needs all four.

Also suddenly realised that our nest of tables all have removable glass tops. Why do we have so much that is fragile/breakable?

The laughable thing is that, while I kept the original box for the computer screen, when I came to pack it up, I couldn't remove it from the upright part of the stand.
"Look in the booklet" was the helpful advice from the OH. Of course, I'd already packed that somewhere, along with all the other IT information.
So, it's been packed in the box for the convector heater. But that leaves me with one dilemma.
What do I pack the TV in?
(Got you there - you expected me to say convector heater!!😂😂)

Wrap it in a duvet or lay pillows on a blanket. Put TV glass side down and wrap and tie it up.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • A roll of "Fragile" tape is useful when you're disguising something like a TV in the way @B3 describes.  We had to do similarly with a large mirror when we moved, and it arrived intact.   :)

Best wishes for your move, @rowlandscastle444.  As others have said, it'll be worth it in the end...

Wrap the TV in some of those old towels and suchlike that you didn't throw out when you were decluttering back on page 8?
Best of luck with the move (not long to go now!) I hope it all goes smoothly.

  • Thank you @B3 @Liriodendron and @JennyJ
I'd got an old blanket ready, but hadn't thought to use pillows as well.
Sadly, those are packed (somewhere by OH) having been reduced in size in vacuum packed bags.
Still, the blanket should suffice (I hope). If we have any boxes left, I can cut one or more up, to tape around the blanket.
Plus we have loads of saved newspaper to scrunch up.
  • Very best wishes for the move King Andrew ( aka @rowlandscastle444 ).  Hope all goes well  :):)

I'd put something between the glass and the blanket. Scrunched up newspapers would do it, I suppose.

Wrap a spare duvet round the TV?

When I think about it though, our removal chaps wrapped the TV up really well in those industrial blankets they have to protect goods being moved.

I started this thread to vent my frustration  -as you do. Well - as I do, anyway. I didn't expect much interest.
Howwweevvverrr, I have found the support of members really motivating.
@rowlandscastle444 move is better than a soap opera. I'm sure it'll end happily as they do.
Looking at the number of views, I hope that the lurkers are similarly motivated ( please share we won't know who you are).
Thank you everyone for your .... was going to say support but it's more  a cross between a gentle nudge and a foot applied to the fundament. Recycling bin is not going hungry.
