When we moved to our current house, most boxes were marked "dining room" or "spare bedroom". I thought we'd be more organised this time, so the boxes are more evenly distributed. They are mainly "dining room" and "second bedroom". 😳 Oh yes - and "garage"!! That's because we're downsizing, and can't find a place for stuff yet. Such as all my books. It'll take a few weeks to get shelves up. My father was telling me about his books and first move. In order to ensure they were safe, he bought an old tea chest, and packed it with hardback books. The removal men couldn't lift it!!
As for the boxes, we may use some for storage for a while. But yes, others may like the undamaged ones. Thank you.
I think our removal company (who supplied the boxes) took the good boxes back and gave us a refund for them. Good luck with the move (tomorrow?) @rowlandscastle444.
Thank you @Lizzie27 One of the companies we got a quote from, said they'd buy back reusable boxes, but I turned them down. Firstly, because I didn't want to have to use boxes used by someone else, that may be weakened. Secondly, because they were only prepared to use one lorry. I told them that there was no way just one lorry would be small enough to get down our road, AND leave space for another vehicle to pass. We live on a dog-leg in the road, and no large lorry would be able to turn into the driveway, without colliding with a wall!!
Our removal company were brilliant and it helped that they were friends of one of our neighbours so knew the road we lived on, a corner property on very steep, narrow hill packed with parked cars. We got permission from the Council to put out cones to save the space for two lorries and a van. OH had an awful lot of stuff in a 3 storey old house and a very large garage. His undrivable, floorless Panhard car was only dragged out the garage on chains the day before by the dilatory buyer!
It didn't help that I'd broken my back a month or so before and was still in a full body brace so I couldn't do anything. Total nightmare.
Our road also is packed with cars, but at least it's relatively flat. Our driveway is one of three adjacent to one another, so there should be enough space for one lorry (out of three!!) at a time.
Good luck for Wednesday @rowlandscastle444 , hope it all goes well. New life on the horizon for you both,it will be strange at first but try and remember why you are moving. I wish you and OH much happiness in your new home.
