How lovely to see you @debs64! Fingers crossed that this new job for your Fiancé works wonders. It brought back a happy memory for me reading your post as many years ago my maternal Grandmother, who had lost her husband to TB, had to work in a school as a cook in order to bring up her family. She had 3 daughters and a son. They lived with her sisters whilst she went to work in a secondary school in Nairobi - sending money home for their upkeep. I never knew that particular Uncle as he also died of TB before I was born.

Good morning everyone. Rowlandcastle444 I hope your heating is sorted soon .Hello Debs good to read thing are getting better for you. I hope your Fiancé settles in his new job .Being able to come home every day will be a blessing for you both .LB take care when you go out the frost sounds very bad where you are .LB your Grandmother sounds like a strong lady . Sorry to read that both Grandpa and uncle died of TB.
Big frost this morning. The heating goes off at night and the kitchen doesn't have a radiator, though it's open to the breakfast room which does. 14C in the kitchen, 16C in the sitting room. The sitting room usually warms up quickly once the heating comes on.
I'm sorry you had a bad afternoon yesterday @Songbird-2. I hope you slept well.
OH slept, he's much better since he started taking the antibiotics though he still has a chesty cough. I was still in the guest room. Cockerel woke me at 7am but I think I was about to wake anyway. Think I'll go back to our bedroom tonight.
There is a huge lorry blocking the end of the drive. I need to go to the SM. I hope it's gone by then, been there over an hour.
Think I'll start my Christmas cards. Best place to do them is on the dining room table bu it's cold in there. The radiator isn't very efficient.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
So pleased that the move went ahead and that you’ve sorted the heating @rowlandscastle444. Hopefully you’ll soon thaw out, and you can tackle the unpacking a bit at a time
I hope your fiancé will be happy in his new job @debs64, and find things much less stressful than they have been. It will be a weight off your shoulders, too, knowing he is nearby and you can keep an eye on him and not be so stressed with worry yourself. It might be less money, but good health is more important. 💐
Its freezing here, we woke to a fine dusting of snow, though that has mostly melted away now, only remaining in the shady areas. Went out to the SM and butcher this morning after Pilates, and then thawed out with a coffee at home. I’ve no plans to venture outdoors any more today if I can help it.
Afternoon all. Ooh Ruby, Hazel and Red maple, you have had snow! I have to 'fess up to a childish excitement when I see the first snow. It still has magic for me. I don't want it to stay around though
Super dooper news @rowlandscastle444. Now you can unpack and re-position things in your own sweet time.
Hazel. I hope you are feeling better today.

LB Things are strange and seem so wrong in my world at the moment. I had my cataract operation on my right eye at the beginning of September and the drops you are given to take afterwards raised the pressure in that eye, (I also have glaucoma) meaning I couldn't have the op in my left eye until that had settled down.I had it Monday just gone. I have got to go back next week to see if the same thing has happened. I have, now, got to get used to not wearing glasses, after having worn them all the time for the last 60 years !!!! I will still need them for reading but can't get them until I have my opticians apointment, which I can't have until I have finished my drops. ( 4 week course). Opticions booked for 4th Jan. I'll get there eventually.
Pauline I hope your eyes settle down quickly .My OH had both eyes done a couple of years ago . His vision is good but he still needs reading glasses.Finger crossed that the drops do their job .
Thanks Rubee. The hardest thing is convincing my brain that I don't have to have glasses on all the time. I have worn them all the time since I was 5 years old, so now it feels like going out without my shoes on.

I found the heating and hot water controls. Both on continuous until the place warms up.
Hallelujah
