I managed to find the post by searching for the author's name (Thomas Christopher).

It was @edhelka who recommended it, so thank you edhelka, and sorry Marlorena.
Happy to hear that you enjoyed it. It's fascinating, isn't it?

Just as an aside whilst fertilisers are being mentioned. How and where does everybody  keep them? I ask because my husband very kindly bought me a big pack of Vitax Rose Fertiliser back in the autumn which was way too much for my needs just then. I kept it in the original cardboard container on the floor in the boiler/laundry cupboard adjacent to the kitchen, thinking it would keep it warm and dry, rather than out in the porch.
Unfortunately when I tidied up in there just before Christmas, I found the box had gone soggy with a crystallized surface so I've hastily tipped the contents which have gone rock hard into a plastic ex icecream container. Will this do?

Fertilisers etc are tricky when they come in cardboard boxes. I keep mine in the porch - inside but unheated, above the shoes. The tom, clem, rose feed, fbb etc has its own little shelf. It's been fine for the last ten years.

@Lizzie27, if the fertiliser is just in the cardboard box then I tip it into a freezer bag with a zip top and put it back in the box.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • I keep mine on a shelf in the shed. It is a new shed this year so hopefully not damp. Bottles of liquid feed get stored in the plastic storage box by the back door so they are near the tap and the watering cans.
