Morning all, I was far too tired and too hot last night to water all the pots and new roses so got up early at 6.30 am (unusual for me) to do it today instead. Am now recovering with a coffee before getting showered and properly dressed.
Another hot day predicted.
As you say, @Dovefromabove, terrible news from Morocco. DIL took my son to Marrakesh for his 50th birthday treat earlier in the year and they loved it.
Another beautiful day here, although i have to admit we have only just surfaced, rather late night out with friends. Much better news about your brother, @Lizzie27. I have just had an interesting invite, to the summer barbecue of my ex colleagues. Never been invited since I left, we did not part on good terms. Now have to decide whether we will go or not. Have a feeling if we do, a few home truths are going to come out, even after 10 years.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
We have a lovely pool near us @coccinella - it is private and you can book half hour slots to have toĀ yourself, with floor to ceiling windows looking out onto farmland.Ā The only trouble is - all those half hour slots are all booked up!Ā
Youngest granddaughter has just been round to borrow my camera.Ā She has started at her new college and one of her A levels is photography.Ā And now she is going to the beach with her friends.
We on the other hand have to go into town for shopping.Ā OH cannot manage the 10 minute walk in this heat with his COPD and angina so I'll take him in the car.Ā Very naughty but needs must.Ā I would offer and leave him at home but I don't want to go down the route of taking on the jobs he normally does!Ā He doesn't actually like me around for the shopping as I pick up far more than he has on his list!
There was a long queue of very slow/stationary traffic leaving the village in the direction of the farm shop, so as I needed a few things from Wrose anyway I abandoned my usual shopping trip and got everything from Wrose ⦠the thing is, theyāve only gotĀ 3 ānormalā checkouts now, Ā and lots of DIY ones ⦠and putting a weekly shop for three people through the DIY type is fraught with problems. Ā
I filled two of the very large M&S zip up foil lined bags (chilled and frozen stuff) and four large carrier ābags for lifeā. Ā Where the heck are you supposed to put the very heavy full bags when you take them off āthe bagging areaā? Ā
Your trolley is still full of shopping. Thereās not room to put another trolley close enough to transfer them across so they had to be placed on the floor, resulting in a trip hazard for staff and customers and a problem for this hale and hearty but nevertheless 71 year old shopper who had to lift them up and into a trolley when sheād paid for it all. Ā Much harder to lift a weight up from the floor than to swing it across from a trolley into the car boot.
When I arrive home I can decant the bags before carrying them into the house so that end of the mission isnāt a problem .., but using even more bags and having to put them on the floor at the DIY checkout would take up more space and create even more of a hazard.Ā
Is there something Iām missing?Ā

Good afternoon,Ā no you're not missing anything @Dovefromabove , IĀ had a rant on curmudgeon corner about the exact same thing,Ā though our local Sainsbugs has at least put in some larger self service ones for trolley shops. Still takes twice as long as the attendant has to keep going round authorising items. I note that Lidl and AldiĀ already had those larger ones. IĀ must be mad been in the garden cutting up prunings from two weeks ago .Ā IĀ was in the shade of the apple tree but it's still very very hot. Sat in front of the fan with cold water drink now.
These DIY checkouts seem the same size and only marginally further apart than the ones at the M&S sandwich shop at Broomfield hospital Burns Unit š šĀ

Hot here too but not as hot as you and the centre of France has 36°C !! Ā Mad dogs and Englishmen @Allotment Boy Ā Down here we stay indoors, shuttered and rest for the afternoon with cool water (or iced tea).... people go to the beach or stay around their pool area - in the shade. Ā Don't attempt to do 'those jobs'. Ā Just chill. Ā
Watched the French hammer the Blacks last night @punkdoc but have to admit that the Blacks are not playing at all well, so I am not surprised the French won!! Ā Hmmm! Ā Going to watch Ireland now - maybe the game is opening up for other teams to have their chance at being world champion instead of the same old ....
Stay inside and drink plenty of cool water. Ā Enjoy the sunshine. Ā Maybe you should even take a photo of it to remind yourselves what sun is like this winter!! Ā
Dadās Birthday tea was a success! My cake was praised and seconds were requested but none left!Ā I particularly enjoyed sharing some memories and family tree info with my late Mumās niece.Ā

Glad your brother is on the road to recovery @Lizzie27.Ā Ā
You will be laughing at us soon enough @Pat E when we start talking about frosts, snow and winds.
What an eventful night @Dovefromabove!
