What a nuisance, @punkdoc, and just when you’d psyched yourself up for it. Hope you don’t have to wait too long. Had a letter yesterday from the hospital, apologising for the long wait for the surgery I had been referred for. Letter says they are writing to everyone on the list to reassure them, and also to check that they still require the procedure. I’d forgotten to notify them, but now is the time to let them know I had the surgery done privately back at the beginning of May. So far then, I’ve had over five months of freedom from discomfort and it looks like I’d otherwise still be waiting. And some other poor soul will be able to move one place up the list.

@Hostafan1, I gave up working on my all over tan when I realised how quickly it faded. Not worth the time invested. And I’d get bored, and spend most of my time lying on my front reading, ended up with a tanned back and a pale front. Now I spend most of the summer covered up, and my face protected by Factor 50 sunblock all year round.

Thats great that you have a friend visiting, that’ll do you good, @D0rdogne_Damsel
And you’ll appreciate the peace more when she’s gone!

Surgeon has just phoned me to apologise in person, explained that at the moment they are only allowed to do life, or limb saving procedures. Frightening really, it is only September, strikes are continuing, and COVID cases are rising.

Hello all, hugs to all with aches, pains and disappointments. Perhaps we could swap some weather for a few days? Continuous sun and 30 deg here and no rain in sight.
Just popped a courgette cake in the oven, will do a lime buttercream topping later when it's cooled.
Covid cases are rising here as well, we will be having our boosters in a couple of weeks, meanwhile we'll not mix with other peeps unnecessarily.
  • Plumber Trevor has been and gone ...

After I'd phoned him about ten days ago about our badly behaved loo cistern, we had a letter from Anglian Water saying they suspected that we had a leak as we appear to be using 1 litre per hour 24/7.
o When I told Trevor he was a bit alarmed as he thought that seemed more than we would be losing from the cistern ... however, having replaced the innards of the cistern and a diaphragm thingummy in a pipe, and checked the meter with the various stopcocks open and closed ... and checked around the stopcock under the sink and the one for the outside tap, and not found any damp anywhere he now thinks that it must've been the cistern not shutting off after refilling.  crossed He says Anglian Water will soon tell us if we're still using water in the dead of night. Our fingers are crossed that he's fixed the problem. We have a £750 excess on the plumbing insurance following the leak 18 months ago.

Onto much brighter news... we have just had a text ... our expected step gt grand baby is a girl  D Being the firstborn of my family, but having had a son first myself, I have no particular preference as long as all concerned are well ... but it's nice to know

    Hello again
back to base. Finally some peace and quiet to catch up with you.

Sorry to hear about the delay @punkdoc. Covid is indeed rising, two very conscientious young guests, friends of my son, had tested positive two days before the wedding and did not come. I just do not want to hear that young people are selfish, they spent money on flights and hotel for nearly nothing if you don't count the two planned days in Rome. Son is taking them out to dinner asap under my instructions and wallet.

@Dovefromabove fingers crossed indeed. When will you know that everything is OK?

Lovely weather here, autumn sun is just gorgeous, done a bit of weeding this morning, but most of the time spent with "stuff" to do. Still worried about arguments with mother. But it will pass.

    Have all a nice afternoon/evening

@coccinella … according to the water company paperwork, if we think we’ve fixed it there’s nothing we need do unless we get another letter from them … so it’s just a case of ‘no news is good news’. 😊

Afternoon all, it's sunny here now I've come in, after a cloudy morning! Can't win.
Dashed out to collect a couple of items from DIY shops, after the cleaners had been.
Pleased to find replacement soffit vent thingies at a reasonable price so got two bags for future replacements but not so pleased to find out after I'd trekked halfway across town and had difficulty parking, that the chimney balloon I'd asked for was still not available.
That's two wasted trips so I'm afraid I might have to go online after all.

Do hope your loo/leak problems are fixed @Dovefromabove. I agree with you that some of these modern back to the wall loo units are hopeless. Congratulations on step g.granddaughter!

Commiserations to @punkdoc, that's indeed a bummer, to get so close to due date.

Good to be home I expect @coccinella, don't worry about your mum, she's probably forgotten all about some spats by now. Always happen at weddings!

Nice for you to have some company @D0rdogne_Damsel, especially in the evenings.

OH is feeling quite a bit better, he's up and dressed, had a bit of lunch.  I found the Covid test kits and he did it and it was positive. It's only a mild dose and on the mend. He was due a Covid jab on the 10th October. Mine is due, I think, in December. I don't know if I should put my sister off coming on Saturday. I'll ring her I think.

    Been to the SM.
