Wilko going bust

I would order from Wilco despite the 4.99 postage,  one time I bought all the exterior paint for our bungalow, loads of boxes of suet slices and a microwave,  the paint is far superior to the dulux weather shield  we’ d used before,  the suet slices are half the price of anywhere else,  as was the microwave,  I’m happy with 4.99 but if you make up the order to 100.00 it was free.
    Greatly missed here.
We have no DIY superstores here.

i use amazon very rarely,  their prices have gone up ridiculously high. Some things have doubled in just a year.
Same for me. I haven't found anything on Amazon recently that wasn't cheaper elsewhere and that includes during their 'Prime Day' events. They've also put their free delivery threshold up from £20 to £25 and consistently price things at £24.99 :|
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    @B3
Homebase was owned by Hilco after Wesfarmers (Bunnings) pulled out.

I'm not sure if they still own it, but l was so glad to see the back of Bunnings.
Our local store became a right mess with badly labelled items, empty shelves etc.
In recent years it has turned round and improved no end.

I went to the local one for the first time in a couple of years, the other day. It certainly looks better organised.  Might go back and have a proper look..
    In London. Keen but lazy.

I read that the company who rescued Laura Ashley might be looking to rescue Wilco.

Our Wilko's is at our closest retail park and I have used it so much over the years. It was there before the pound type shop and a newly opened Boyes, and I still prefer it. The staff are always very nice.

With regards to gardening it feels kind of like 'home', it's always had a really good core selection of stuff. I've bought lots of seeds and bulbs from them which I've found reliable. I've had some good tools and equipment from them too which was generally value for money.

I'd be disappointed to see it go.

These days I find Boyes is loads better than Wilko for the things that I want to buy, and they have a reasonable haberdashery section as well as household/hardware/toiletries/garden.

I’ve never heard of Boyes,  they don’t seem to have a website,  all I get is ‘error’

I don't think Boyes do online sales. They seem to be mostly in smaller towns. The ones I know or know of are in Doncaster, Lincoln, Chesterfield, and the best one that I've been to is in Barton-on-Humber.
Edit: I'm getting the same error on their website, but if I remember rightly there wasn't a great deal on it (there was a store finder I think).
Edit again: here's a wikipedia page about Boyes, which includes a list of stores. It looks like they're just in the Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, East Midlands, North East areas.

They haven't actually brought in the receivers or anything else mentioned in the press or TV. A notice of intent has been served. Homebase and 2 others are "showing interest"Youngest daughter works in the Eastbourne branch which is always packed. She said it is the third best store for "takings".
