Wilko going bust

I quite like Wilko but they bought up a department store outside the indoor shopping mall.  It's down past TKMaxx which bought another. By the time I've trudged through the indoor mall, whatever the weather, I can't be arsed to walk down to visit. If it was more convenient,I'd use it. I think perhaps they bought too many cheap sites rather than being a bit more discerning.

I’ve only ever been in a Wilco shop once,  when I was visiting someone, years ago.
I only use mail order,  free delivery over £100.00. I get loads of suet blocks,  half the price of any where else, kitchen stuff,  microwave,  kettle, bedding,  all laundry liquid and fabric conditioner,  a huge order, twice a year.
Will be sorely missed by us.

I’m sorry about this, mainly on the dog’s behalf, she loves their chicken wrapped chews.

I used to shop in Wilko quite a lot, but over the last several years they've discontinued many of the products that I used to buy so I don't go in there very often now. If that's typical then I suppose it's no surprise that they're falling by the wayside.

They made a huge mistake insisting in remaining on high streets instead of going out of town like all the other discounters did and their p&p on online orders has been high and quite careless at packing...too many time fluids run and damaged dry goods.

They're great to pick up seeds and bulbs and got a whole load of liquid fertiliser for £1,50 a bottle when they were getting rid of stock. But to get to their store it usually means driving for half an hour and using B&Q's car park and walk down the high street to them so I can't carry large or heavy items. The cat will particularly miss their freeze dried chicken and duck treats, always much cheaper than the branded options and 100% meat.

Hope someone will buy the company and turn it around, remember the mess Homebase was in five years ago?

I've never used Wilko - they're much further away from where I am than other similar places like The Range, even though the majority of them are through the central belt. Understandable as that's the most populated part of Scotland.
I saw earlier that there's a list of the ones closing in the immediate/near future. 14 or so I think.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

There are no Homebase stores left near here  and we are not exactly in the back of beyond. There is a large Tesco  (not local) that has a mezzanine floor with homebase products but the range is very limited they have to order things in apparently. Only been there once in about 3 years so I wouldn't hold your breath regarding Wilko. The only Wilko round here is near 2 other huge SMs and wedged between an Aldi, and an M&S. Only been there 2 or 3 times since it opened.

We don't have Wilko here but I am a strong advocate for buying local. Where I live most of the economy is based on tourism so I always encourage my tourists to shop locally.
They don't! They come to stay for two or three days and within an hour the Tesco lorry drives up with a delivery. It grinds my gears!
The last time I tried to buy a large item from my local shop was my workbench. Local shop £107 but online £66. Had it been within a beagle's gowl I'd have bought it there but that price differential is eye-watering so just no.

Didn't the Australian purchasers of Homebase have the brilliant idea of having a sale of barbecues, picnic stuff  etc one Christmas? Great idea if Homebase was in Australia🙄
Do they still own it? Their plants seem well-cared for at the local one but that might vary with the quality/ training of the staff at individual stores.

Homebase closed the branch here so they lost my custom. Shame really, as it was nearer than B&Q. We do have an out-of-town Wilko as well as the town centre one, but it concentrates on homeware, ornaments and suchlike and carries only a very limited range of toiletries, cleaning stuff, pet and garden (which are what I want from there).
