Good morning all. Off to visit the “back to backs” houses in Birmingham and learn how people like my Dad used to live. That should put things into perspective.
@Rubee how is your OH today? I was so sorry to read how he is suffering hope he has some relief now.
@Ante1 I could not cope with those temperatures I must admit I am hankering for Autumn now.
@Ladybird4 it’s lovely to hear that Jack is still enjoying life at 92. His generation was a tough one wasn’t it? I doubt we will see his like again.
It’s looking fine out there, which is just as well as we need to deal with an acer in a pot today. Some of its roots have found their way through the holes in the pot and begun to burrow into the ground. I think it’ll be quite a task sorting it out, as those roots that have escaped look quite thick. Sadly, it’s going to have to go - too close to the house. I was sure we’d placed it on a slab, but it doesn’t look like it. Hey ho, such is life.
Good morning everyone.Happy Birthday to 23.🍧🎂🥳🥳. Debs OH is a little more comfortable this morning .Thank you for asking .LB enjoy your day with your Bestie .Ante I really don’t know how you cope in that heat .BigLad sorry to read that you had rain yesterday .
Morning all. Thanks so much for wishes for 23 birthday. I'm sure in an hour, when we see him, mayhem will be reigning in his house as he was very excited. Have a good day with bestie @Ladybird4 ,LB, is it hair cut day? Mines tomorrow. It's grown really long so will be glad to get it up out of my neck and away from my eyes. Middle grand daughter has got * Distinctions in all her college exams so really pleased for her. Youngest grand daughter gets her GCSE results today...tensions will be at a high this morning. Good luck with the fight against the Acer @Red maple, rather you than me, I am lacking in energy these days. @debs64 your visit to the back to back houses should be really interesting. I have seen documentaries about the remaining houses and I don't know how the people survived in such small, tiny places with so little sanitation available to so many. It will certainly be an eye opener. Poor @Ante1, you wouldn't see me in those temperatures, I'd be a puddle on the ground and then I'd be vaporised in the heat🥵 Make sure you drink plenty of fluids, of whatever kind😉 Must get ready for the off now. Catch you later.
37° announced for here today, not quite as hot as chez @Ante1, then thunderstorms tonight and down to an agreeable 25° tomorrow. Phew! It was 30° in my bedroom last night so I went to bed late again, when it was cool enough outside to open the window. Woke for the loo then not again until nearly 9am.
Not sure what to do today. Too hot to garden or paint the landing, done all the unmentionables apart from wielding the hot metal thing, too hot for that. Maybe I'll read a book and watch TV, but it will make me feel restless.
I had a couple of sweetcorn last night from the garden. They were perfectly ripe so I must freeze the rest before they go over. Too hot to boil saucepans and boil them. Does anyone know if they freeze without blanching? Maybe I'll do it tomorrow.
I've been trying to lose weight since OH left a week ago. I've put on too much this last year. I've been eating veg and salad from the garden, bananas and yoghurt, lost 4 pounds and feel fine, pleased.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Rubee, it's nice to hear that your OH feels little bit better today.
As Bussy said, it's day to stay inside. It seems that yesterday was the peak of heat wave, so today is slightly better. You can definitely feel difference in just three degrees. Hazel, I'm taking a lot of cold water, but that has another symptom 😁.
@Ante1😂 As my dear old mum used to say.....tip it, tip it in, tip it out! Busy, phew, that's hot. I, too, start to feel restless when it's too hot to do anything when inside, you're wanting to do something. Far too hot on a night too. I as hot last night and our temps were well down on yours. Well done for losing some weight, good weather for eating hardly anything👍
23 was in fine form this morning , bless. Loved the pressies we'd brought, to add to the huge pile already received. It was like Christmas morning in there🤭 We had a good time with them all. Have done a little light pruning since coming home but it's started raining again so will have a nice rest this afternoon now. We seem to be clarting about a lot these days so a rest will be very welcome.
Lilys tv on, last wash, thankfully. All the rest hung to dry. Debs the back to backs are near the university built for the students but looking a little dilapidated from wear and tear and more in local towns outside the city which seem to have weathered rather better considering age and location. Enjoy your visit. Hazel glad 23 enjoyed the presents a fun day. LB out this morning but rather humid. Hope hair appmt went well. Ante hope you’re not working too hard. Rosie
