That is good news about your mum Hazel. Three weeks respite care might be long enough for her to decide she rather likes being somewhere with kindly folks around for a chat whenever she feels like it and a decent (hopefully!) restaurant just down the corridor.🙂
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
No problem at all @Songbird-2, l'm so glad that it all seems to be working out for you and your Mum. I hope she settles in quickly and makes some new friends. Now take a little time for yourself xx
we have sunny spells at the moment which is nice. The gardens are looking so much better after all the rain we have had, though the grass has grown and will soon need another trim. Parts of the hedge have sprouted, too, despite its recent trim, however, it will have to wait as there is a dunnock family in it at the moment. The parents are very busy going back and forth with delicious protein for them.
We, too, have a regular hedgehog visiting our garden and the surrounding ones. A neighbour leaves food out for him/her, but we have plenty of slugs and snails for it to feast on. The trail camera we have shows him snuffling around the potted plants.
Be careful in that heat @anti1, pace yourself. I’m glad you’ve decided to rest up a bit today - remember, the school holidays are a chance for you to recharge your batteries a bit as well as gardening.
I hope your mum settles into the new home @Songbird-2, and decides she likes it well enough to want to stay after the respite period.
Well, I think it’s almost coffee time. I’ll just go and check on the material things hanging on the string outside. 🤞they’ll be dry.
Thanks @Red maple, @Topbird and @AnniD. I'll be very on edge tomorrow wondering how she is getting on. Brother is taking her in and will send me a photo of her in her room and in the actual place as at least I can, then, visualise her there. I just hope it goes okay, and for brother too, He is not well and has been finding it tremendously stressful too. We had both decided this was the right time in light of what may be coming for him and also after mums recent fall and safety and considering how things have deteriorated with her unfortunately.
@AnniD, before our visit to mum I sowed some seeds for a fresh batch of Winky Wooh Aquilegia🙂 Nothing through yet but I'm hopeful.🤞 Nice to see you here too.
Good afternoon all. Thanks to persistent rain I do not feel one bit guilty about enjoying the tennis. There have been some superb matches so far.
Hello there SGL. Nice to see you. How are the poppets?
Debs, it is great news to hear that your colleague is on the mend. Hopoefully she will continue with her recovery at home.
T'Bird, you are right, Lily has been with me through thick and thin and if I can keep her happy and comfortable then that is what I intend to do. So sorry you are still suffering a lack of the wet stuff!
Busy, your meal - as always - sounds absolutely delicious. I don't think anyone will worry about a few wonky vol au vents - I certainly wouldn't. I would be more than impressed that my hostess had made them herself.
Hazel, its good to know that your Mum didn't hurt herself too badly when she fell and has been said by others here, she might find the respite quite stimulating and decide to stay where she has company all day to interact with. I've been down your route and know exactly how difficult it can be. Sounds like you brother could do with the 'respite' too.
Ruby, I do hope that you have managed to find some 'me' time in your busy day. Have you managed to get any tennis watched?
Red maple I had to check my hedge carefully the other day to make sure that there were no squatters before I trimmed it. All my nest boxes have been full this year and one lot of sparrows seem to have had at least two clutches in the same box as the to-ing and fro-ing has been exhausting.
Rosie, it is 17°C here so not too different from you. With watching all this sport on TV it feels like Saturday today!
I had a little venture into the garden and spotted that my new passion flower has bloomed - I did pick a plant that had lots of buds on it when I bought it on Sunday. Here is Snow Queen:
