@Papi Jo That's a new introduction I believe so few people will know it yet.  However, I usually find it takes clematis 2 to 3 years to settle into their new home and get established before they really start to perform.  Keep it fed and watered this summer and you should get better results next year.

@Obelixx Thanks for your reply. I am quite willing to wait a couple of years. I was actually comparing with my C. 'Forever friends' which has grown to full height even its first year of planting.

I have just put in a Mandshurica and will be interested to see how it settles in.

Had a very pleasant surprise yesterday, followed by a very unpleasant one.
back at the start of this thread I reported that my Montana had sadly passed due the ravages of winter.
Well yesterday I discovered 4 new shoots from the base,
Unfortunately in my excitement and enthusiasm to free them from their weed ridden confines, I managed to trim off the end of my finger with my topiary shears, ouch!!
I’ll spare you all a gruesome photo of that…

Oh I'm so sorry, that's horrendous.. it's weird but I almost did the same thing myself yesterday and have a nasty cut to prove it.. a near miss..   I hate wearing gloves don't you?..

Pleased your Clem. is growing back though, they just need a bit of time and some warm weather don't they..

    thanks M,
Yes, I seldom wear gloves too.
My own stupid fault of course, was cutting back the old dead stems and one was a bit too thick for topiary shears that I had in hand, but as I can’t be arsed to go and fetch my secateurs, It’ll do if I just give the shears a bit more of a squeeze.
The increased pressure and sudden snap of the blades and I took half of the nail and about 1/4 “ of my left forefinger as well as the stem.
I should say it’s a lesson learned, but I suspect it may not be so…

    We don't.
How quickly things can change eh?
I hope your own near miss wasn't too bad.
