    I've just bought a Westerplatte.  Never had a clematis before I don't think, but needed a climber to replace the dead Trachelospermum. 
    Only about a foot or so high at the moment.

    I'm hoping it turns out to be a good plant 🤞

    Oh it will, it's a really good one, with plenty of vigour.. I bought a new one too and posted a photo upthread..  some flowers are just now going over, but I might take another pic. tomorrow..  it's only small..

    Thanks, here's mine.

    Is it likely to put on much growth this season or is it a bit late now? Happy to wait but would be good to know what to expect.

    Yes you will, more when those few flowers are finished.. you might even get some later flowers..

    I usually fix some thin wire vertically up trellis like that, as they find it difficult to cling to thick wood battens, such as you have there..
    I also wouldn't keep logs of wood around the base.. snails hide underneath and likely eat your stems.. 
    A compost mulch around the base is beneficial if  you have any..
