A chemical spillage from a lorry or train crash, or from a factory fire, is another possible scenario.

  • Or even a gas leak - which occurred just a few minutes walk from where I live, yesterday. I'm told it caused traffic chaos, but firstly, I know people exaggerate, and secondly, I don't drive. :)

Let’s hope it doesn’t use the same forecast as the 1987 storm,  there definitely won’t be a storm! Sniggers at the women who phoned in to tell them about it.

France has had a system in place since June last year using moble phones to alert regions about dangers such as storms, flooding, violent winds, forest or scrub fires.........  No idea whether it's universal or one has to sign up for it.

  • in the usa we got an alert on apr 5 because there
was huge brush/wildfire less than 1/2 mile from my house.
most normal countries have these type of alerts.

There you go then @war garden 572  - you will no longer be able to accuse Britain or the British of not being "normal"  :D
All joking apart, I hope that the wildfire did not affect you directly.  More prevalent everywhere and must be very frightening when so close to you :)

That can be very disconcerting and unsettling @war garden 572 .., we had a couple of wildfires not far from here last year … I hope none of your neighbours were hurt. .
