Interesting that the government can access everybody's smart phone.
Interesting is not a word I would use. More like "scary".
I'm a very private person where my contact information is concerned. If I want someone to have it, then I'll give it to them. I'm not on Facebook, Twitter, etc.
I think I read somewhere that your phone has to be either 4 or 5g to get the alert. Mine is 3g, apparently, even though the internet has never been accessed on it. Can anyone confirm this please.
Who has the final say of what message we'll be getting? Will someone in the local council have the authority? Would it be the military? Could Putin or Xi infiltrate the mechanism? Could the system be sold for advertising? Will we be getting subliminal messages through the system?
I'm too busy to fret, got a wooden trough to line with polythene!

They don't have your personal data. It's a general broadcast sent from local tower that is picked up any suitable device in the area.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
Presumably that means all those of us without mobile phones are considered to be "extra to requirements" ?. I'll be interested to learn whether this Emergency Alert will be set off by the May election results
@wild edges.is correct. You can see how it’s already causing a mild panic, as someone in the government once said, the way to keep the masses under control is to keep then in a state of anxiety. Can’t remember who said that.

My Dad (91 years old) is currently in hospital. He has a Doro mobile phone which is one specifically for seniors. He's just about mastered it, but will have a helluva trouble dealing with the requirement to respond. The alarm will probably scare the beejesus out of him too.
Not ideal for people in his situation.

@wild edges will you please stop posting factual information. It's most distressing for all the conspiracy theorists out there.
